Baby Names

Lucy? Thoughts and suggestions

Need opinions and help for SIL. They have two girls Lyla and Nora. Baby three is on the way, and if it's a girl they are thinking Lucy. Just Lucy, not Lucille or Lucinda, etc. Do you like the name? Can it stand alone? Does it go with Lyla and Nora?

Also, they need middle name help. They like short middle names. Lyla Grace, Nora Kate, etc. Suggestions for something similiar that goes with Lucy?

TIA!

Re: Lucy? Thoughts and suggestions

  • I think Lucy can definitely stand alone, but will poor little middle child Nora feel left out if both her sisters have "L" names?

  • I think it can definitely stand alone and I think it goes fine with the other names.  My friend just named her little girl Lucy Jane, which I think is completely adorable.

DH has vetoed Lucy, but I love it and I think it stands well on its own.

  • I love the name Lucy- my sister almost named her 2nd that (but then her cousin-in-law used it... family name on her husband's side - anyway...).  It's a sweet name and I think it goes fine with her sisters' names.  Not that they really need to "go" anyway.  As far as middle names go, I like myantonia's suggestion of Jane.  Other short/er names off the top of my head are Ann or Anna, Elle or Ella, Marie,  Eve or Eva, Claire or Clara, Paige, Erin, Rose, Sage, Cora, Nola, Mara, Vera, Gwen, and Emma

  • I think the name Lucy goes well with your SIL's other children. That said, as much as I like the name, it seems more fitting to me for a little girl than a grown woman. I prefer a "weightier" name like Lucille to go with Lucy.

I think it goes well with those names, My DD's name is Lucy Susan (Susan is a family name)

This. I love the name Lucy but with two siblings with "T" names and I'm all alone with "A" I always felt, left out. I know its silly but I was the middle child and for a part of my adolescence I was very aware of it.

I actually know more Lucys than Lucilles. I definitely think it's a stand alone name.

Lucy Elizabeth was our front runner for a long time. But since your SIL likes short mn's, that doesn't really work. I don't really think a short mn flows well, so I'm coming up short on suggestions.
