Washington Babies

Evenflo Triumph owners

We are getting close to convertibles for the babies.  DH is kicking around the idea of the Evenflo mainly due to the Consumer reports rating and the price.  The price is a big factor because we have to purchase at least 4, possibly 6.  Don't ask. I am leaning towards the Britax and waiting for the new Pegs.

Pros and Cons of it....any regrets?

    Pros:

    • Fits most cars, even ones with shallow seats (like my Element).
    • Easy to adjust perfectly.
    • Easy to install correctly in all the cars we've had to transfer it to.
    • Durable.
    • Inexpensive.
    • One of the safest carseats around.
    • Max loves it, and is more comfortable in it than in any of the Britax models we've borrowed. He's a big guy, so that was really important.
    • RF up to 40 lbs.
    • FF up to 60 lbs.

    Cons:

    • I wish we had gotten a different fabric, but that is just petty. I don't like the fabric we have.

    Other than that, no cons.

  • We got the Advanced Deluxe version as a gift, and no regrets on keeping it.  I love the seat, super easy to use, easy to install, and big and comfy for him.  It's pretty tall though so the top of it blocks my view of the back window in my SUV. I have him in center though.

  • Our #1 is the Evenflo Triumph.  We need to go to BRU and check the fit in the cars, but based on everything we've read, we're looking at that one primarily.

We're only buying two to start with, though, and we'll switch them between cars as needed.

  • We have four (two in each car).  They're easy to install, and the cover is easy to remove and wash.  I can't think of any cons.

  • L, I can hunt around for you if you're needing to buy 4 ... I got mine for like $120 each on a deal. I LOVE this carseat. Collin moved into it at four months and it has been wonderful. It is easy to put in and take out, he's comfortable, it has sustained two plane trips (and fits very easily into an airplane seat) and it cleans up easily. I am so happy I went with the Triumph and will definitely get another one for our next child.

  • Ditto Katie's pros.

The one con for me is that the mechanism for tightening the straps is a bit cumbersome and the latch you push to then loosen the straps often sticks.  I'm hoping that these things will be less of an issue when we turn the seat around because then they won't be butted up against the back seat.

Oh, I totally forgot what a b!tch those release and tightening valves were RFing. Once you turn them around, the seat is a breeze to tighten and loosen. Never fear, my dear, the end of sticky valves is near!

Yes I'm very glad to hear that.

  • Love ours. Rear facing it was a bit of a pain to loosen in my camry because of the contour of the seat back. Bit in the minivan it's no problem at all.

  • J, I might take you up on the offer!

You guys are beginning to talk me into it.  I hate to admit this but the price level really put me off.  When you go from the Pegs to considering this, I just did not think the quality would be the same.  The Pegs have new convertible seats coming out, and I absolutely love the safety of our current Pegs.

Honestly, I think that's what Britax and Peg bank on.  They make you think that you are paying double so it *must* be better.  I think that's how they've been able to sustain those prices for so long.

CR rates the Evenflos just as high, and that made a big difference for me.  I've heard many people complain about the crotch strap on one of the Britax ones too... and yet they still pay $250 for them or whatever.   I think the Evenflo also just looked more comfy and it fit better in my car.   And the little bit of pain in loosening in my other car was in no way worth $100 difference.  I LOVE the crank to tighten the seat belts and I LOVE that there are not slots for the shoulders so the shoulders are always at the right place.   We have two, and I just bought an Evenflo harness to booster thing for Ben for our other car.  Oh and we had a super cheapo Evenflo that we used for travelling.  It is fine for occasional use but it's definitely a get what you pay for thing...

Actually, I bought my Peg stroller because it was crimson and gray. GO COUGS. Wink

Funny, my Peg stroller is that color too and I never thought about it.  And I HATE my Peg stroller.

  • I am not saying I wouldn't buy something because of price, but when you are comfortable with the design and safety of the Pegs, it is hard to look towards other things.  We have had a great experience with our Pegs and we are happy with them.

The only reason we are looking at the Triumph was because of the CR rating as the best buy.  Or else I would be getting my way on the new Pegs....which are so lovely looking and stylish Stick out tongue
