Thomas question

Do any of you with older DS's know if it is worth spending the money and getting one of these Thomas the tank engine tables like this -

Thomas - Island of Sodor Play Table & Board

My Mom asked me today if I wanted one for Coop for Christmas as the are currently on sale. What are you thoughts? Do you think your son has outgrown it or do you think it is something that they will play with in years to come?

Re: Thomas question

  • Kai would love one of those! even Eli. They are all about trains though. So if we had room I would. I guess it depends on how much Coop likes trains. Since Brian works for the railroad my boys are OBSESSED!

  • Those are cute. They are the kind they have in Barnes&Noble Bookstores. We got a C-List one with the huge storage drawers underneath though. One drawer stores all the train tracks/cars and another for puzzles. We use the top for little people playing, chalk on flipside, etc. Really depends on how much space you can spare.

    I love your train table!

N, I think Coop would enjoy it for a few years, especially if he digs trains now. Max loves trains and would go bananas over a table like that!

  • I've kind of seen the other side of it with my sister.  My 3 nephews were obsessed with trains and they have a table like that.  They've had it for probably about 3 years and definitely enjoyed it.  They still like trains somewhat, but now the table is mostly just a place to set other stuff.  After a few years, they don't use it that much now.

  • We are planning to get Collin a train table for Christmas, too, and I have looked at that one. The reason I am leaning against it (and he's a huge Thomas fan, too) is that some of the others, such as the Imaginarium one, have drawers to store the trains in, which I think is brilliant.

I think my Mom is actually looking at one that you can get the storage drawers underneath also so I think that would be a good idea also.

Coop LOVES his 'toot, toots' now so I think he will love it and we are in the process of buying/bulding a 4600ft house so we will definitely have the space for it so I guess it would make a great gift from my parents for Coop - thanks Ladies!

  • We have one that has drawers under it - we got it on Craigslist for $35 and it came with a ton of trains!!!  deal of the century.

Ben played with it a TON for a pretty long time.  Around 2 I'd say was the right time to get/have it... old enough to start not just ripping it all apart.  :)

I'd say we haven't used it very much over the last year or so, but now Cooper is liking it so they're playing with it again.

You can always use it to build legos on or do puzzles or whatever later if trains aren't doing it for him later.
