I can't get him to fall asleep . He barely sleeps during the day and the moment we put him in the crib he wakes up again. Is this normal? What can I do to get him well rested?
Yes that is normal, your baby is still very young and may only want to sleep in your arms. It can help to have a good carrier or sling so baby can get his closeness needs met and you still can have your hands free.
I'm being lazy and C&Ping a response I gave the other day about newborn and sleeping.
It might be that it is TOO quiet. Newborns are used to lots of noise
in the womb. Like vacuum cleaner level of noise. Try putting some white
noise on to help her sleep. For us the vent van above our stove does
the trick almost every time we need either of my kids to nap at this gage. Then once
she's asleep we have a noise machine in her room to help keep the noise
level up for her.
One of the things it took me a while to figure
out was that a lot of babies (mine for sure) don't just "go to sleep"
most of the time. They have to be PUT to sleep. So we have to do the 5
S's - swaddling, sucking, shushing (white noise), swinging, side - not
in that order necessarily - from The Happiest Baby on The Block. Here is a link that gives the gist of it: https://www.babyslumber.com/happiestbaby.html
At a few weeks old they only should be
awake for a short bit after eating before they need to sleep again. So
try to get her to sleep sooner before she looks tired versus waiting for
her to act tired.
Other times it might just be "the witching
hours" as my LC puts it and babies just act generally fussy and don't
sleep for a stretch of time. For us it evening/dinner time when that happens.
I always thought that my DS didn't like to be swaddled, but after hearing about how many people were successful in making their LOs sleep swaddled I was determined to do the same. I u-tubed swaddling techniques and DS slept so much better when swaddled correctly. Also, white noise does wonders! When he is fussy, the second I turn on the white noise app on my iphone, he quiets down and his eyes start to close. He sleeps with white noise all night long! lol
When he was younger, I wore him in the Moby a lot during the day and that helped him sleep also. Good luck!

Hope that helps!
Unfortunately I'm right there with you, but I'm pretty sure LO has reflux & milk allergy. Going to the doctor on Thursday.
