Pack n Play decision - which one?

So DH and I decided it's time to get a Pack n Play for DD. We are going to San Jose this weekend and would like to take it with us. We also are starting to go more places during the Spring/Summer that would need us to stay overnight, including camping in July.

We are trying to decide what style/color to get. We had a color picked out and registered for it, but by the time my shower came around, the color was discontinued and we didn't know it. So now we're between two colors:

This one (Sweetpea): https://www.gracobaby.com/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=1783223

And this one (Nature's Rhapsody): https://www.gracobaby.com/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=1786220

Which do you think?

Re: Pack n Play decision - which one?

  • Option 3...get something cheap/free and maybe totally basic off CL and don't stress about it.  It's only going to be used a few times, do you really want to spend that kind of money on it when you can get one for like $20 max?
  • Things like a bumbo, go for whatever color you want. On big purchases like a pack n play I tend to like those more gender neutral, so I voted for #1 although I really like #2.

It actually won't be used "a few times". It will be used every day since I can bring DD to work with me and it will be used there as well. I'm not stressing about it, just wanted the ladies opinions, and it will be pretty much paid for with gift cards.

  • I like the second one best. So cute!

Have you heard of the PeaPod? We ended up using that a lot (we have both) because it's SUPER portable. Just wanted to make sure you knew of that option. :)

Sorry if you read it as a criticism.  I read "we'll be taking it camping" and thought I'd want something that I didn't spend much on.  We bought a really nice one and used it alongside the bed until Q moved to his crib and haven't used it since.  We have a super cheap one at my mom's that she got for free and he's slept in that whenever we've been there (a lot) and the hotel provided one when we were there.  We'll probably take ours on a road-trip this summer but we don't use it around the house and it's pretty big and bulky for a lot of applications.  I guess I would rather have gotten one cheap and 2nd hand and had $140 worth of gift cards left for food and diapers rather than have a really nice pnp that I don't feel like we've used a lot.
  • We have one very similar to the first one. We also went the gender neutral route which is why I voted #1. We have used our PnP quite often, even now at 27 months DD will sleep in it. But we didn't use it at home all that often, so I never got much use out of the cover and changing table. It was more of hassle than anything else (to put together and take apart). Just my 2c.

ETA: sorry the PnP itself is not a hassle. VERY easy and best purchase we possibly made. But we could have done without all the bells & whistles of the fancier ones.

I agree.  I actually have 3 and neither has been used very often.  The one that was used the most was smaller one that my mom got at Big Lots for about $50.  I would personally rather have a cheap one too if i was going to take one camping.  ALso, I never really used the changing pieces either...it was always a hassle to put together. And to have the shade over always got in the way.

  • we loved our pack and play and used it often for almost two years (until H was too heavy for it).

it went to sweden, de, ca and back. I used the changing pad all.the.time. he napped in it where ever I was. If i went to visit a friend out int he country, I brought it so he could nap.

super easy to fold and assemble. used all parts of it.

I just thought you should know some people did use the heck out of their pack and play.

I voted for #2, love it!  I also wanted to say, don't know if you have the storage option of a second one but it's going to get icky camping and I have one that is very much like those you've picked but it has some odd rust colored staining on the mesh sides, but the mattress part and black and white cover and great shape.  If it would be easy to get it to you from the Fairfield area, the next time I go to my dads's then you are welcome to have it as your camping one for free.  I'm ready for it to be out of my houseBig Smile

Ditto this!  We used it for over 3 years and even when DD was over the weight limit (oops!)  It was one of the best things we got.  I lugged that thing everywhere: to the airport several times, camping, and when ever we stayed in a hotel or at someone's house.  I agree that a gender neutral one would be good so when you are done with it you can sell it or give it away easily.

  • I like #1, but I do think you should check out Craigslist. When I sold mine it was practically brand new condtion, all parts. And I had used it everyday for a year and half.   The couple that bought it got a STEAL!!   I even still had the box.
