You are lucky to have great kids! This is how it was when it was Mom, my brother, and myself. My brother and I were about.. 16&17, and my mom worked 50+ hours a week. We came home from school, cleaned up the house, and had dinner on the table for when my mom came home at 6:30. I cooked, and my brother did all the dishes. My mom did the laundry on the weekend though, but we helped. (Had to carry it down a flight of stairs, all the way across the complex, and hope that the three washer/dryers were available)

(when they were little my ex. husband was useless - I did 110% of everything AND worked 60+ hour weeks with an Everett-Seattle commute)

I am lucky - but I also STRONGLY believe in everyone pulling their weight. If I didn't work, it would be a different story. But with both parents working and teenagers who are more than capable, they do their "share".
In return for chores, they get housing, food, sports, and "taxi" service...seems fair to me!
