Help! Babies have head colds

My boys have nasty head colds. They're snotty and stuffed up and coughing and sneezing. Poor Luke, every time he coughs he gets this look on his face like, "Why are you doing this to me!?" Cal seems to be soldiering through it, but still, I feel badly for him. They're both clearly miserable.

Doc just said that I have to run its course. I'm wondering if you have ideas for things I can do to ease their discomfort? I have a humidifier running in their room. A couple times I have gone into the bathroom with them and sealed it up and run water for steam. What else?

My girls have colds too.  Their pedi said to put a drop of nasal solution in each nostril, let it set for 5 min, then use the nasal aspirator and suck each nostril.  It seems so torturous at the time you are doing it, but it actually helps with their nasal congestion.  I do it as gently as I can...I hate doing it, but it really does help, it's like blowing their nose for them....

Thanks, I'll try that. I've been using the aspirator (which they HATE), but I haven't tried the solution.

The solution definitely works well! Also, try elevating their crib mattresses a little at night to help them breathe while they sleep. Sometimes it seems to help them if I keep it a little cooler in the house or even take them for a walk at night when it is cooler outside. I think it helps them breathe a little, but I am no Dr.

Saline solution is the best thing you can do for a cold and suction suction suction! It really makes a huge difference and helps to relieve the pressure in their head.

apple cider vinager is a natural decongestant. put some in the humidifier and CRANK it. it will make their room stink like feet but it will help their noses stay clear while they sleep. I hope it passes quickly.
