Getting up before the girls to shower in the morning is impossible. They hear the running water through the walls, or hear the floor creaking when we walk. I can't even go into their room to check on them at night (have to peek in from the door) because they can sense me in there and wake up. MH got up at 4:30 this morning for work and I have been up with the girls since 4:45 because they heard him walking around in our room.
Ugh. Does this get better as they get older?
Re: anyone else have a light sleeper?
We have one light sleeper and one heavy sleeper. I can't go in there anymore at night because Harry can smell me. I actually think it's getting worse as he's getting older. In the mornings, I don't get him anymore. I let him hang in his crib and lecture his stuffed animals.
Alexander on the other hand, can power thru his brother's screeching at the top of his lungs every morning. Every morning, I put Harry in Alex's crib. Harry will have to climb all over Alex, use his head as a drum for Alex to start moving.

I have a super light sleeper and we started running a noisy humidifier in her room at night. The white noise seems to drown out the other noises in the house. It doesn't always work though - she was up at 4am this morning because the water heater was making some noise (not very loud noise, but enough for her). She even hears the click of the door handle when I open it to check on her (I open and close it suuuuper slowly). And this child is in day care all day, so it's not like she's not used to noise. I guess I have no idea how to help - haha!
Good luck!

She will wake up if she hears ANY little noise..it has even caused DH and I to fight sometimes because he just can't be that quiet and will wake her...
I like the idea of white noise to drown out other noises and you just reminded me I need black out curtains to keep her room dark.
Not sure it this will ever change but I can relate!!!
I had a light sleeper and it did get better. We lived in a two story, creaky townhouse when DS was a baby. The kitchen was above his bed and if DH tried to do the dishes, it woke DS up. We couldn't use the kitchen at all after he was asleep. Or flush a toilet. It sucked. For a long long ass time. And caused many a fight or seething on my part.
And then at about two years old, it stopped. And we started having to wake DS in the morning to get him up.
Or physically pick him up to end a nap. The kid who wouldn't sleep in a stroller or car now sleeps in the car AND I can transfer him to his bed without waking him.
