I've noticed kind of a shift in Holly's interests lately. It's a good shift for the most part, except for her current obsession with "watching a movie" (we recently introduced DVD's.. LOL). She is OBSESSED with this super lame claymation Little People DVD that has Aaron Neville singing on it. Yeah. Weird. But she talks about it all..day..long! And would watch it all day long if we'd let her.
But lately she's playing less with "toys", and more with puzzles (she can do a 12-24 piece jigsaw by herself, which I was pretty impressed with!), and other more manipulative things like her magnet board, lacing cards/beads, etc. It's cool to watch her really concentrate on something like that, and be so proud of herself when she finishes something.
She loves playing outside, and helping in the kitchen, helping water flowers, and having real conversations with us--she'll specifically ask us at the dinner table to talk about different things we've done lately--the wedding we went to a couple of weeks ago, a beach trip we took awhile back, etc. It's fun to watch her intently absorb all we say (when she wants to...she's still good at ignoring us too. haha).
She's really big into pretending--the play kitchen she got for Christmas is still a big hit. She loves to "cook" us food. And I love to hear her have little conversations with her stuffed animals and dolls.
I've realized I absolutely don't have a baby anymore. But it's been really neat to watch her change lately. It's a fun age!
What is your LO into these days?
Re: What is your 2-3 year old up to these days?
Ben has really been into movies lately as well! Especially Cars, I think I have every single line memorized. He will ask for it as soon as he wakes up and usually when the TV is on it is Cars.
He also really does love cars, trains, airplanes and pretty much all other forms of transportation. He is always carrying around his two little cars, they go pretty much everywhere with us. We play with his car tracks at home and are always vrooming. He loves pointing out trucks on the road and telling us what kind of trucks they are.
He also loves soccer and can run with the ball really well. His only problem is that he still likes to pick it up, but we are working on it.
My newest favorite thing is him asking me, "What's that, Momma?" So we are starting to fill in the gaps on words he doesn't know. Yesterday we learned about leaf blowers, wheel barrels, lawn mowers and people honking their horns.
I need to get him some of the activities you mentioned, I bet he would love them.
They are such big kids now!
Same with Jocelyn. She is in a Dora phase right now and wants to watch it ALL the time. We do still play with some toys, but she is mainly into Little People. My dad got her a 3 story doll house for Easter so we have played with that a little bit. She does like to "pretend" more now.
For the most part she likes to be outside, do bikes or bubbles, or just run around, go to the playground and do all the big slides. We've also gotten into more arts and crafts and play doh. We also go her an easel with a chalk board, and she likes to do that and write letters and numbers on it. We are also into sidewalk chalk.
It is a VERY long day for me, she's been waking up at 6:30 and going to bed at 8, so we pretty much cram a lot of stuff in the day, including watching TV so I can rest, it is exhausting being 8 1/2 month pregnant!!
I can't imagine how SAHM's (especially pregnant ones!) handle it all day at this age! DH and I are EXHAUSTED at the end of the day on weekends! This age is non-stop action, for sure!
Same here...Nic pretends a lot and we re-enact any Dora episode while I run. It is hard to push a stroller, keep Pebbles right next to me and sing along with Dora
I really love this age and completely agree we no longer have babies...but for me I only miss it about 1%.

Caleb is big into pretending. He always is saying "ARR I'm a pirate." Or "I'm a superhero, where's my cape?" LOL. He also pretends he's a robot, a giant etc. I think he gets some of the ideas from the Backyardigans.
He is quite opinionated and loves voicing himself. Caleb isn't so nuch into his toys lately, but prefers to play outside. He's almost able to pedal his trike and loves walking around the block. He's also big into swinging.
Caleb constantly talks about visiting Grandma & Grandpa, and how he wants to ride the BIG tractor. (they have a big John Deere) I love how excited he is about seeing his grandparents.
He loves sitting and reading books. He'll sit through longer stories such as The Cat in the Hat. He always asks for "just one more" story. We're big into movies too. His favorite right now is Bolt. We've also introduced him to our Wii, and he likes to race the dinosaurs on the Diego game. He sometimes asks to "watch a game."
Jack LOVES to pretend quite a bit. Its usually superheros, ghostbusters with or without the action figures and he will play camping a lot with the lil boy I watch and they will have lil picnics with the playfood, etc. I love the imaginations at this age!!
Jack loves to play with his and his brothers action figures and plush super heros and they rank very high on his list of things to play with. He also goes in spurts about his trains and train table. When the lil boy I watch is here they will try out all the different toys. I need to start introducing his puzzles to him more as we have a bunch we just have them put under a table so he doesnt' rip them all about and leave them. (he lvoes to do that!!_
Jack loves to playoutside running around, in the sandbox, riding his lil quad car. I need to work on getting him to try his trike more cuz he just doesn't have the patience to try if he's not gonig anywhere he'd rather get u and run around.
We also loved movies here Especially Ghostbusters (thanks to DH for introducing that one) and if I get a netflix in the mail that is for me he insists that its the ghostbusters cartoon cuz sometimes they are.
They are so fun and SO BUSY at this age!!
R's imagination at this age amazes me. I had no idea she would be able to "play pretend" so well and so much b/f she was even 2. It's really cool to watch her imagination run wild and also, it comes in handy when her toys are entertaining her enough.
She has started saying the exact same phrases we use with her and with each other and we pretty much never actually "teach" her many words anymore b/c she just picks up on it.
She's also extremely fascinated with nature...birds (especially), the sky, the moon, etc. Last night, on our way home, she said "Hey moon, I right here!"
She's been pretty obsessed with YGG for a while now. I DVR this show for her and it comes in handy when I need a break or to cook dinner! She talks about the characters a lot and she's starting to get into Dora and Diego a lot too. She doesn't watch those shows, but she's got their books and other things that she is crazy about. She's also VERY into Elmo and frequently asks for the "Elmo nong" (song) when we're in the car. Sometimes, we play an Elmo song we have on a CD in my car.
She also asks us every night to "ning nongs" to her (sing songs). She sings along with us and it's so cool to watch her learn how to sing. She's not saying every word, but she can say most and fill in the blank on most of the songs we sing. She and her dad have perfected "On top of spaghetti" to a rap (duet). It's really cute.
She loves to play outside and to throw a ball to us or for the dog to chase and just about everything with being outside. She's getting better with her tricycle and enjoying that too.
Ok, this got really long. But hey, you asked us to talk about our child which I love to do : )
This stage is SO much easier with 2 older siblings, LOL! I watch how much Jeremiah plays with his sisters and wonder how in the world did I keep up with the 2 of them (and I had a baby when they were this age too? no wonder i'm crazy now!) LOL!
Anyway, as to what he's into these days...puzzles, coloring, riding his big wheel, playing baby doll with his sisters, watching a movie (Elmo is his favorite)...and climbing! He'll climb anything he can...especially if its not meant to be climbed, LOL!
