Any suggestions for a unique name for a brunette boy of Italian / Cuban descent? We like Matteo. Rocco, Antonio and Marco already taken. Dante, Lorenzo, Fabio -- a little too feminine. Thanks in advance.
Thanks, Girls! I'm so picky ... I want it to sound ethnic, but not too ethnic. I love Sebastian, but already have a friend with a son that name. I love Luca, but hate that it ends in an "a" because it sounds like a girl's name in America. Moneypenny -- you're beautiful and ethnic looking. What is on your list for boys and girls names? So many on this board aren't into ethnic names, so a lot of the names thrown out aren't my style, or they're too common.
MH is Cuban. There's a Nelson, Jorge, Sergio, Steven and Damien in his family. On my Italian side we have some you already mentioned plus Dominick, Angelo, Anthony.

Melissa, that's funny that you are Italian and your husband is Cuban, just like us. Do you ever find that your backgrounds clash a little? In my case, my family is pretty confrontational, and his is nonconfrontational. It can be tricky to deal with when we are with each other's families.

We like Alessandra and Nadia for a girl.
Thanks! I'm West Indian and DH is Italian and black, so we want a name that works with his super Italian last name (and that the giant Italian family will like), but won't sound weird to my family. Of course, I also want a name where it doesn't seem odd that a little brown child has a super Italian name .
I mentioned Luca as a name for my SIL and her immediate response was "like Luca Brasi in the Godfather?" I guess that won't work!
I love both Alessandra and Nadia! For girls right now we like Cecilia, Francesca, Bianca, and Luciana/Lucia. I love Belen for a girl, but DH isn't as into it. Boy names have been harder for us, but in addition to the ones listed above, we like Gianni and Alessandro.
Moneypenny, I think we have very similar taste. I love all of your girls names, especially Lucia, Francesca and Cecilia. Boys' names are such a pain -- I'm stumped, and from the ultrasound pics, I'm pretty sure we're having a boy. Matteo feels right ... and maybe that's a sign that we should pick that one.

It does sound like we have similar taste! I love Matteo, esp. given both of your backgrounds. It works well in Spanish and Italian, but also sounds great when said by English speakers. Since it feels right, I think that's your name
I vote for Matteo (esp. since you seem to like this one best) or Luca. I know what you mean about Luca sounding feminine in America. I thought this until I met a man named Luca. Now I only associate the name with a male, so I think the same might happen as people meet your DS.
Re: Recs for Ethnic Boys' Names?
Giovanni, Marcello, Giancarlo, Vincenzo, Leonardo, Raphael.
I love Matteo. If I didn't already have a nephew named Matthew, it would be on our list!
