diaper rash - red with pimples?

Our girls have never had a diaper rash - but now one of them has a read area in her bum with pimples.  Is that what a diaper rash looks like?  Will desitin clear it up? I was reading on-line that it could be a yeast rash...has anyone experienced that?

When Aiden had a yeast rash that's exactly what it looked like. Nystatin cream (prescription) clear it up in a day.

We have our second diaper rash ever right now and it is a yeast one.  It took me forever to realize that's what it was because she'd only ever had the one other diaper rash and it was traditional. 

Over the counter athletes foot medicine (lotrimin)  is what the pedis office told me to use.  It's an antifungal.   I started using it on Thursday evening and it's almost completely gone now.  The nurse said you'd see a little immediate relief but that it would take at least 3-4 days to make it clear up all the way.

It sounds exactly like the first yeast infection we had. Doctor said to use Lotrimin the first time and Monistat the second time around (and he said it's usually easier to get the Dads to pick up the Lotrimin than the Monistat but both would work well).

I'm a pediatric derm PA - pimples is yeast...we call those "satellite lesions". As everyone mentioned, use OTC Lotrimin Cream (get the clotrimazole one). I think it actually works better than Rx Nystatin. Mix it with 1% (OTC) Hydrocortisone cream and apply 2x day. Use a barrier over this mixture and with each diaper change...I like zinc oxide, aquaphor, triple paste and A&D oint
