NBR: Need more living room help...lamps. :)

We got the end tables I posted about. We also found a rug. The last thing we need is lamps for the end tables.

Here's a pic the new furniture (we already had the toddler. hehe). I don't plan to use the existing lamp. I feel like we need something more substantial because we probably won't have much of anything else on the tables for now (this is Holly's main play area). Plus, it's kind of more traditional than we want (we're leaning more towards "transitional").

Here are a couple of lamps I like. I'm worried that since we have so much dark furniture in there, that we need something a little lighter. I love these glass lamps below--they're tinted a brownish color, but still light. But, since our walls are light, I want something that shows up, so I'm not sure. I also like the hammered bronze one, but wonder if it's too dark. I would be open to a color--though probably not red, since they'll be right next to the red couch. Thoughts on these, or any other recs? TIA!

My DH is about ready for me to shut up about this room. He has no opinions about it anymore. And I need some input other than "whatever you want, sweetie." hehe...

Re: NBR: Need more living room help...lamps. :)

  • I was going to suggest glass/crystal lamps I think they would love fabulous on those tables.
  • I like the 2nd two options. I really like the shape of the 2nd glass option, but I'm also a sucker for hammered metal, but it would be a bit dark.

In my experience, lamps are something I like to take home & try out, then decide and return the unwanted one. Not sure where you are buying these from, but that would be my suggestion.

Which rug did you decide on? Hope you get it all finished up soon!

  • Loading the player....
  • Yeah, I only like the first glass one because I felt like we needed more height--there used to be a higher table with a large plant on it on the right side, and it's looking very empty. But it's probably just because I'm not used to it not being there.

But the 2nd glass one has been my fave for awhile. They're at Ikea (the glass ones--the bronze one is online), so it wouldn't be super easy to return them, but not impossible. We could also use them in our bedroom or something, if they don't work here.

This is the rug we got. We got it at Lowe's. I like it way more in person than I do in this picture (and the colors actually go with our furniture & stuff--they don't seem to in this pic)--but I'm honestly not in love with it. I just got tired of looking, and the price was right. It'll do for now. :-)

  • I like both options (my favorite is the 3rd though), but would also suggest looking at Pier 1 for lamps.  They have a nice selection.

  • I like the glass lamps, especially the squattier one. You could always replace the shade with a colored one so it would show up against your walls.

  • Home Goods has a lot of glass lamps!

I think this one at Pier One would look good in the room since it's pearl-colored, it's light enough, but also more interesting than a plain white or clear:

I also think the green or amber glass ones at WorldMarket would be nice:

I've also seen large clear lamps at Target recently - with fillable bases, so you can put shells, flowers, plastic fruit, whatever your heart desires in them. Smile

AND HOMEGOODS!  It's hit or miss with some things, and there's no online store, but they usually have more pretty lamps than I know what to do with. Stick out tongue

  • Didn't have much luck at the Homegoods at Southpoint--but maybe I'll check some others. I do love that amber WM lamp though! I just wonder if it's too thin/spindle-y for the table. I feel like I need something chunkier.

    Thanks y'all!

  • I like the glass ones to add a different texture into the space.  I would also suggest checking out Carolina Pottery.  They normally have tons and great prices.  I also agree with PP about taking them home and trying them out.  I would probably buy 4, 2 of which are completely something you wouldn't traditionally pick, take them home and try them out, then return the ones that didn't win.  Lookin good!

  • Ok, I found these at PB and LOVE them (the amber colored ones). Now to talk my DH into spending $100 on each (which will never happen! Crying)

If anyone finds something that looks like this, but is half the price, let me know! hehe...

  • Have you checked Overstock.com yet? We got nice lamps from there and were pleased. And, if you enter there new moniker in your internet browser ("O.co" - that's right, no "m") they give you a decent percentage off your order.
