Hi fellow July mommies!
Im 31 weeks with my first born (a little boy). My OB told me that everything looked great with the anatomy US but the other day at work one of the Cardiologist I work with (Im a Peds. ICU nurse) asked when I got my fetal echo. I was a little taken back because I was never told I needed one. Yes, I see everything in the ICU and I was the paranoid mother in the beginning of my pregnancy thinking my child would be born with every illness under the sun! Have any of you had one and what lead you to do so?? I would hope that if there was something wrong with the baby's heart my OB would have picked up on it and told me!
Happy Mothers Day to you all!
Re: fetal echo
I have had one, or two rather. Its usually if they look at your family history and something shows up. I had a brother that was born with Hypoplastic left heart (basically means the left side of his heart wasnt formed) So because of that "family history" they gave both my kids echos in utero.
I had a fetal echo a few weeks ago and I go back on June 7th for a follow-up. Like others, the doctor ordered the echo because I was born with a heart condition. It if was something major, the doctor would have saw it on the anatomy scan and sent you for further testing. Or if you have a family history, the LO is more likely to have some condition so that is why they do the echo. I wouldn't worry about it, if there was something there, the doctor would let you know.
Happy Mothers Day to you too!
