Baby Names

FWIW

Does anyone on this board have a uNEEK name? If so, how do you feel about it? I have a normal name, Julie, but at one of my doctor's it somehow picked up the first initial of my middle name, making me 'Juliee'. I am embarrassed by it and instantly makes me feel like my IQ has dropped 30 points. When I was younger, I wish I had a uNEEK name, but now I am so so glad I do not!

Re: FWIW

  • I have a very unique name.   I'm not really happy with my unique name and have never in my life gone by my full name.  I go by a nickname that is also a common name (mine is spelled differently because it's part of my full name). I would never tell my mom that I didn't like it though, she picked it because it has a very powerful meaning to her.

  • I wouldn't call my name unique but I have a unique spelling (although I have noticed that my spelling is becoming more common). I do have to spell my name anytime I have to give it but I really, really like my name and the way that it looks.

  • My name isn't uneek- but it is unique as being its not even in the top 1000 (possibly 3000!) My named peaked in popularity in 1979 with 27 girls having been named it in the entire USA!

When I was little I ran into a lady with my name (she was old and from Italy). I have searched my name on facebook for others (even befriended one lady, we had alot of similar interests) and there are a few but not many there.

Growing up I didn't like being "one in a million" I wanted to be Amanda or Jennifer or Stephanie! But now I LOVE having a unique and special name.

i have a unique name and i love it. it's similar to a common name, but with a different first consonant (not made up though). i have to explain how to pronounce it / spell it constantly, but i really don't mind - it's fun to be different from everyone else!

  • I have a classic (but fairly uncommon) name with a unique spelling.  I like the way it looks and I get compliments on it all the time, but I find it a total PITA to have to constantly spell it and correct everyone's pronunciation.  I will be using the traditional spelling for my kids' names.

  • I have a unique name, not a uneek name (although some on this board would beg to differ).  I hated my name growing up because I was teased.  But I was teased about a lot of other things too.  And plenty of kids with "normal" names were teased right along with me.  As an adult, I wouldn't trade it for the world and having to spell it has never been an issue for me.  I love my name and I'm so happy to have found a unique name that I love for my LO as well.

  • My name is spelled Jesica.  I actually love it.  It was a blessing in high school when there were 20 Jessica's in the 11th and 12th grades alone.  I didn't have to use my last initial...and when we would do anything alphabetically by first name, I got to go first.
