Does anyone find it at all disturbing that THREE names that made HUGE leaps and bounds from 2009 to 2010, are from Teen Mom? Farrah, Maci and Bentley all jumped more then 400 spots. Is that just coincidence or does anyone else find it a little weird/convenient?
ETA: To me, the unfortunate thing is that Farrah is a classic. My association has always been Farrah Fawcett, who will forever be an iconic figure of beauty and strong will. It wasn't until a knocked up teenager from a reality show came along and graced the cover of mags everywhere that the name took off. I don't get it.
Re: s/o to huge jumps in 2010...
Of course it made a difference .Those names hit the spotlight like the 2nd coming of Jesus. The names and girls were everywhere. All the media these girls get of course puts the names inot the spotlight. Jace didn't become popular because someone from the midwest had a cousin named Jace. It became popular because it was constantly in the media.
I do not see how your post blames anything on those girls, it was just a question. I also dont think they need a break. They made their choices, they also decided to spotlight them in the public. They continue to put themelves in the spotlight and are collecting the $$ from it.
Life Quotes
I think the teen moms 15 minutes wil be up by the time the kid is in school or cares where their name "came from"
I think people just hear a name and then say "hey, thats nice" but dont necessarily link it to a person. however, there are certain names where it is inevitable. Example- unlikely that you are going to hear "osama" and think "nice name" and not link it to the crazy guy
*So proud and so lucky to be the mommy of two beautiful little girls
and one handsome little man*
RJ~5.17.2005~born @ 37w due to IUGR~4lbs 15ozs
Al~4.5.2008~born big and healthy @ 38w~7lbs 9.5ozs
Lil man~5.20.2011~born big and healthy @ 39w (after one he!! of a pregnancy)~8lbs 1oz
I don't think you need to worry about it.
Our DD's name made a big jump -- about 65 places, which is big given it was in the low 200s before -- from 2008 to 2009, but we went with it anyway. It only jumped 6 places this year. I blame it on a) the current old-lady chic trend and b) Angelina Jolie (hence why Vivienne suddenly appeared in the 500s.)
Most names do not appear in a huge blaze then climb super quickly. I think it's just some exposure causes people to think they like it, then they die again.
If it makes you feel better, go to the SSA website and look at how many kids were actually named the name, it will be less than you think. You can also download the files for all years, and see the actual numbers below the top 1000.
