It is a good name. I don't know anyone IRL with this name. I think a lot of girl names starting with El are becoming more popular due to the nn Ellie. I don't think it will get in the top 200 anytime soon, but you never know.
There were 295 babies named Eloise in 2009. In 2010 there were 547. I wouldn't worry a whole lot. Names can pop onto the radar quickly, but it's uncommon that they go from completely off the charts to huge popularity.
I'd attribute Eloise to the 'Ella/Ellie' nickname trend.
It's not so much that Eloise is that popular, it's the fact that there's a million names that have begin with -el that have exploded in popularity. Ellie, Elle, Ella, Eliana, Elizabeth, etc., etc.
I think what's more relevant is its prevalence in your area/circle of moms. There can be 100 Eloises in Cincinatti but that doesn't matter if you live in Orlando. KWIM? Browse your local paper's birth announcements or your hospital's virtual nursery.
I think it will definitely become more and more popular every year. There are so many things about it that are appealing to the general population.
I don't think it's important that PPs have never met a baby with the name. It's obvious that not many people would have. The name is just now starting catch on. It's only at #530 as of yet! Up until a year or two ago, no one had even considered it as a possibility.
But everyone is looking for "their own" variation of the Ellie trend. And once Eloise catches on (2 to 3 years), it's going to easily contend with Eleanor//Elena/Eliana (all of which are currently between #100 and #200, and steadily climbing).
It may even give Elizabeth (#12) and Ella (#13) a run for their money in about 10 years.
So if you are simply worried about the next 1-2 years, you will probably be okay. But if you are worried about the popularity of the name over time, yes, it could become one of those "I'm so sick of hearing that name!" "But I liked it BEFORE it was popular!" kinds of names.
Re: Concerned about rising popularity of Eloise, jumped from 913 to 530

I think that this hits it on the head! It is a nice name but I can't imagine it rising too much higher in the rankings.
Our DD's name is Eloise. I've never met another Eloise before, and I don't think that it will grow to be hugely popular anytime soon.
And for the record, we don't intend on calling her Elle or Ellie.
