Diaper smell

My diapers keep smelling weird.  I have a FL and am using Hard Rock.  The first time I thought they smelled like pee so I rewashed with detergent and then added in a wash with no detergent. 

they smell almost mildewy, like that stagnat water sour smell.

Any ideas?

I only washed maybe 6 diapers (BG and inserts) and 2 prefolds and 8 cloth wipes. 

and i add extra water to the wash and rinse so that the diaper are about 3/4 of the way in the water at least.

Hm, do you prewash first? But if youre only washing that little at a time then it's odd to me that you would have a funk issue. Do you let your diapers sit? Either in the pail or after you wash them before you dry them?

Also, maybe it is your washer that smells?(unless the diapers smell after they are completely clean)

I would definitely check the washer. FL can have issues with mold/musty smell if you don't do a tub clean cycle. I usually do a tub clean cycle 1X a month. I wet a rag with water and Bac-Out and wipe down the inner rubber ring really well. I put a few good squirts in the detergent tray too and then I do a tub clean cycle. After the tub clean cycle has finished I wipe the ring out again with just a wet rag again just to double check.

I also clean the lint trap thingy at the bottom of the washer along with the detergent tray, because it can get slimey. Also, if you leave the door open to the washer it can air out and won't be moist when not in use.

This! When I got my FL the men who installed it told me to wipe it down after each use... I did this for a few months then figured out that if I just kept the door open after each use and let it dry I had no issues. That will not be practical once baby is crawling around and climbing into things, but for now, it works well.
