Two Under 2

When does the honeymoon phase end?

We had a rough time from the get go with DD1.  So we were SHOCKED that we can get 3+ hour stretches of sleep (I do not need to wake DD2 to feed as she is above birth weight already).  DD2 only cries for a new diaper, food, or gas.  She is so easy going and mellow (granted she is 9 days old).

I am trying not to set myself up to think this is normal.  But I would not mind if it is....it has been wonderful.  Also, DD1 loves "baby" and has been so helpful.

Can this blissful family life with 2u2 last???

That's about how long the honeymoon phase lasted with my DD before the reflux and protein allergies reared their ugly heads. I am praying for an easier baby this time.

  • I just recently told my friends that I take back my statement that 2u2 is pretty easy.  Dd is 8 months and ds is just now not so happy with her because she can move and grab his things.  Things aren't bad, but they are more stressful for me.  He's been acting up more and needing more attention, so I'm sure that's part of it.

So, for me, about 8 months. :)

  • Our honeymoon phase ended when #2 started walking and #1 started the worst terrible two phase I have ever seen or even heard about. To top it off #1 has a speech delay that even though everyone says "it has nothing to do with parenting" i still feel guilty for not working with him as much as he needed since I was so busy with #2.
  • I thought having a newborn was the easiest thing ever.  We were shocked at how easy it was.  That was until she was 3 weeks old.  The more she was awake and the more attention she demanded, the harder it got.  I thought having an infant was going to last an eternity, it was so hard.  I imagine it will be similar this time around.
  • I had no honeymoon phase. :o) I thought it was hard from day 1!! But apparently I just make difficult newborns.

For me, it has just got easier and easier the older they get.

  • Around a month is when things seemed to get harder.

  • DD1 woke, on average, 4 times a night until she was 8.5 months old.  So we were shocked when DD2 gave us 4-5 hour stretches at the start!  She did have some colic, but it was so much better than DD1.  We had about a month of bad sleep around 3.5-4.5 months, but aside from that, it has been pretty good.  At night.  Daytime is a bit different.  DD1 is always bothering DD2 (who is almost 7 months old now) and she gets SUPER grumpy about it.

  • When Eddie stopped sleeping all the time (around 1 month) it started to get a lot harder. When he hit 4 months, he got sick and had a BAD sleep regression and it got REALLY hard.

Starting to get easier again now that Eddie can entertain himself with toys...though he does like all of Alex's toys to Alex's dismay.

  • 4 months into it and we're still in the honeymoon phase. Given, we've had a couple of really tough weeks. Last week, DS was teething and DD got a stomach bug and that was rough. Otherwise, it really hasnt been that unmanagable. DD is also a good sleeper and a really happy baby-even if I put her down in the middle of a feeding to get DS something, she doesnt even cry. DS has not been jealous and has been nothing but helpful since she was born. I know we probably dont have much longer of this, but I'l going to enjoy it while it lasts.  :)
