I am reading that you should avoid at least until 2nd trimester as they dont yet know if it affects baby. What am I going to do to look not dreadfully pale this summer??? I dont sunbathe either and heard that is probably even worse for you!
Self-tanner lotions/sprays are nothing but chemicals, none of which are good for the baby. I'm going to go to the beach and pool like normal, just wear higher SPF sunscreen than I normally would. I think people will understand that because you are pregnant, you are "dreadfully pale."
My Dr said that sunless lotions (like jergens) are safe because it's basically staining the top layer of the skin and doesn't enter your bloodstream. He told me to stay away from spray tans because you breath in the chemicals and theres not enough research to determine if it's safe. No tanning beds either due to the heat (and they are just plain bad for your skin). I live in FL and wear a lot of sun dresses. I would be scary pale if I didn't use my Jergens sunless tan lotion.

Self tanners are not safe for you when you are not pregnant. Sitting out in the sun is fine as long as you wear SPF, stay hydrated, and don't get over heated. Just be careful which sun tan lotion you use. You can find safe ones on cosmeticdatebase.org.

This question has come up a lot recently on this board. My doctor said it's fine as long as I can stand the smell. It only stains the top layer of your skin. I go to a spray tan bed that's organic and I do it every week. I also did it every week during my first pregnancy. It's fine, my baby's fine, I'm fine.
My doctor said that the tanning lotions like Jergens are fine...they do not enter your bloodstream. My doctor said that spray tanning should be fine, but to be cautious b/c there is not enough research out there yet. I was told to avoid the tanning bed all together!
Just to be devil's advocate.... how is slathering yourself with high SPF (a chemical) any safer than slathering yourself with self tanner (a chemical)....?
For the record, I am not a tanner in any capacity.... just wondering.

Re: Self Tanner Safe?
What about something like this--claims to be organic and all-natural

Also there are plenty of home-made self tanning recipes online, I would look into those as well
I meant to say they aren't safe even when you are not pregnant so being pregnant they are also not safe.
