Luca is now peeing on the potty!!!!!!!!!!!! He's doing great, but he will not poop.. He will actually pee, tell me he's done, pull up his pants and poop. Help! I have no idea how to deal with this. (he stands to pee)
DD has always been obsessed with the idea that everything has a "family" and a "home". So I told her poop wanted to go in the potty and when you flush it, it's going home to be with its family. We spent probably a year looking at poop going down the drain and saying "bye bye" and waving to it.
It's very normal for kids to get the peeing down way before they get the pooping down. Try not to stress about it. One thing you might do is when he gets on the toilet to pee, give him a book or toy or something that will keep him occupied, or sit down and chat with him, hopefully until he poops.
Otherwise, in my experience, I've found that it is so important to let him do it on his own schedule. I know it's easier said than done, when you're having to clean dirty underwear all the time. But Luca seems like a pretty strong willed little guy, from what you've said, and I think making too much of an issue of it will cause him to fight back, especially since he's older.
We pushed it on Hannah, instead of letting her go at her own pace, because she was starting preschool and it was required that they be toilet trained. I think it just stressed her out, and at over 4 years old, she still has multiple accidents daily. I would do it totally differently if I had to do it over again.
Also, does he poop on a regular basis? Make sure there's nothing medically wrong too, if something doesn't seem right.
Rena will not poop in the potty either (she's been pee-trained for 2 weeks now). She waits until naptime or bedtime and goes in her pullup. I've been stressed about this but I've talked to many moms who said this is pretty normal. So I'm trying not to worry about it too much.
Yay for Luca going pee in the potty! One good thing about waiting until they are 3...they train pretty fast!
