There's a name I'm thinking about and I was wondering what other people thought when they heard it. It's a little off the wall and I don't think it's really my style, but I thought it was interesting. The name Shepard, for a boy. Too weird?

When I was a kid, we had a neighbor man named Shep. I'm assuming it was short for Shepard. 

I'm not really a fan... I also feel like this name could open to door to sheep jokes and "baa" noises in high school...

I think I may have seen it once before, spelled Sheppard, but it is totally NMS.  At all.

NMS at all. I tend to think of a dog. And I agree with PP that it opens up a gigantic can of worms for teasing.

I think it's a pretty decent name.  I know one little boy named that and his parents mostly call him Shep.  I don't think about sheep when I hear it.  It's kind of edgy and original.  His parents are free spirited bohemian types and it seems to fit the child really well.

DD is Kaylee (from Firefly/Serenity)...maybe I should consider Shepard for #2???

I kind of like it...it's better than some other names out there. But I dislike "Shep" as a NN. I'd probably consider Shepard as a MN over a first name.

I do like Firefly, but I'm guilty of something equally as silly. I'm a Bioware fan. : / Big time.

I thought this was the name of the dad and brother in the Ya Ya Sisterhood series since they went by Shep, but it's actually Shepley.  Sorry, no point to this post I was just about to say it is the name in the book till I looked it up.
