Party location question - especially if you know the Sac area

This shouldn't be this hard but I can't make up my mind.  We have been planning J's birthday party in late July for months at a mini train place in the Sacramento area (where we are now.)  But now we are moving in June an hour away to the foothills - 15 minutes outside of Auburn - and we are wondering if we should have his party at the house.  Most of our family/friends are Roseville-centric and the house is 25 minutes from Roseville and the train place is more like 45 minutes.  However, we do have friends/family in Sac that would have to go an hour to the house.

Train party: pros - easier party because there will be built in entertainment and not much need for decor because the party will be at the little depot.  Covered tables, grill, bathrooms. cons - far away from where we live which would make set up more difficult.

house party: pros - at home so can take more time to set up, people can see where we live and tons of outdoor space (acreage) cons - party would have to be outside and it's hot, so early morning or late in the day and we'd have to do more decorating/renting/setting up.  I also have no idea what the theme would be or what fun thing we'd have to do.

Oh, and I'll be 36 weeks PG :)  Fun fun, but I would like J to have one last big day about him before it'll be all about the baby.  So, WWYD?

  • At 36 weeks, I would say don't do it at your house....that'll be a lot of work and you won't want to hang out in the heat.

It sounds like the train place is less work, albeit further away.

If you have to choose between the two, pick the one that is less work and gives you more time to enjoy your guests, J and his big hoorah!

  • There's a cute train place in Nevada City that you could try.  We went there for Father's day when Ryan was a baby.  Not as "cute" as the one in Rancho - but it's a full sized train.  It's at a bed and breakfast place - can't remember the name but i fyou google train and nevada city, it would come up.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
