Twins -- Schedule questions

Hi,

I have a set of twins born on March 18 at 32 weeks. Monday they will be officially 40 weeks. I feel as though I am messing up their schedules. Currently, they are eating 3-4oz. every 3-4 hours. I am not feeding them on a rigid schedule, but rather feeding them when they start to fuss. They are both still sleeping for a majority of the day. We put them to "bed" after their latest night time feeding which tends to be around 11:00. They are still then up to eat on their same 3-4 hour schedule.

Does this seem normal for twins at this age or should I be doing something else? I feel like when they were in the NICU, their schedule was so set, and it is not any more. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Twins -- Schedule questions

  • If the NICU had them on a schedule and it worked for them, I would stick to it until they are older and fine without one. Most babies thrive on a schedule. It also helps you to have an idea as to why they are fussing i.e. they are tired, need to eat, etc.

I agree with all of this. Babies love routine and schedules.

  • My boys were born at 32 weeks also....for what that is worth. :)

I don't really remember much from when they were that young but I do remember keeping them on the same NICU schedule at first and then slowly working out night feedings.

  • My girls were also born at 32 weeks.  I kept them on an every three hour feeding schedule partly for everyone's sanity, and partly because they were on the smaller side and I wanted to do what I could to help them gain weight.  But yes, my girls ate every three hours around the clock, so about what your two are doing!
