Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Can I refrigerate pureed banana?

I pureed two organic bananas on Monday and put it in the fridge because I didn't have ice cube trays yet. I have fed my baby bananas three times including a few minutes ago. I tasted it first and it tasted good, smelled good, and did not turn brown.

Did I screw up? Are you not supposed to refrigerate banana? Google has given me different answers.

I feel so clueless about starting solids. Also she hasn't pooped all week and she usually poops daily. How can I help her?

TIA!

Why wouldn't you be able to refrigerate banana? I've never heard of that before. As for the pooping, have you given her prunes yet? That should help her go. Or you can give her 1oz apple juice mixed with 1oz water. That always works for my ds. GL!

The banana was already pureed, right?  You don't refrigerate bananas in their peels, but of course you can (And should) refrigerate them if they're pureed.

  • I pureed a banana and put it in the fridge and it turned brown overnight.  It smelled fine to me, but I still didn't feed it to DD.  Now I just puree it right before I give it to her, and if I need to occupy her in the meantime I give her a couple of puffs to play with, but thats only if she gets fussy.

  • I have no idea. I can't remember the website where I read you shouldn't. Maybe I misunderstood.

I cooked the bananas first. I just read on Wholesome Baby Foods that you shouldn't. Did I damage something or is it just not necessary to do?

Oh maybe that's what I read and I got confused.

I have not given her prunes. Do you cook and puree them? Apple juice seems easier.

I thought it would get brown but it didn't. Otherwise I would have felt too gross feeding it to LO!

Bananas do not need to be cooked. It should be put in the fridge for a max of 2 days, and it's totally normal if it turns brown, it's still good. All of my frozen bananas turn brown.

  • The five P's: peaches, pears, prunes, peas, and plums. All of those should help with BMs. The banana may bind baby up a little, so I would hold off on it until you get LO to have a BM, if you're really worried about it. I also heard that you can use some lemon juice to keep the pureed banana from turning brown and you can certainly refrigerate it so that it is good for LO to eat at a later time or the next day. Good luck:)
