TTC after 35

D & C tomorrow...I'm getting nervous

So, long story short, I started this m/c on April 2 - but I have not stopped bleeding.  My Hcg is dropping very, very slowly and I now have 2 small follicular cycts. So OB thought D & C would be the best course of action.

They'll also do a scope while they are in there to see if they can find any scar tissue (this is my 3rd m/c).

Anywho, I'm starting to get nervous about being put under.  I was put under once for wisom teeth and the only other surgery I had was a c-section and I was awake.

I just needed to get that out because I don't want to upset my DH by telling him how nervous I am, but as I get closer to the surgery I am getting more and more nervous/upset/scared.

Thanks for listening!

Re: D & C tomorrow...I'm getting nervous

  • So sorry you are going through this. I havne't had general anesthesia in a long time but for IVF it was fine but that was just drugs. My mother had anesthesia for the first time in her life yesterday for knew surgery and she got through it just fine. You will be alright.  BTW thanks for you congrats, I think this will be a trend, two BFP's on this board this week right!

  • You can do it!  I know that it's easy for people to say oh don't worry about it, you'll be fine, but it can be a scary process.  I will be sending T & P's your way tomorrow hoping that you come through ok.

I am also very sorry for your loss.  Right Hug

  • I am so sorry. I will say a prayer and keep you in my thoughts.
  • I have been put under many times but I still get nervous before every surgery.  If it makes you feel better, I don't think that it will be as bad as wisdom teeth.  I will think of you and send you positive vibes tomorrow.  Let us know how you are doing.

  • Hi,

So sorry that you are feeling so worried. I recently had both a Hysteroscopy and D&C to prepare for my first IVF, which I am currently healing from the whole experience....each time I had general anesthesia --the IVF didn't work...but I would do it all over again!!

I had very positive experiences (as much as can be expected--I was not shopping or something enjoyable...) however, I had no problems from the anesthesia, the recovery and I did not even need to take any of the prescribed pain relievers...

I hope you have a similarly easy experience and this lessens your worries...best, Heather

  • Will keep you in my prayers. You will be ok.

  • Oh, I'm so sorry.  I had a D&C a few years back, and was under light anesthesia just recently.  It's completely normal to be nervous, but it will be ok.  The hardest part of all of it will mostly likely be when they put in your IV, but you've had that before, they do numb you up, and it's just like a shot.  All the rest of it you'll be asleep for.

If you continue being nervous or it gets worse, talk to your OB.  If it's appropriate with all your circumstances they may be able to give you a single dose of an anti-anxiety med.  Good luck, and hang in there -

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Ugh, it just sucks doesn't it?

I have been put under twice in the last five months and both times it was no big deal at all. They were very sweet at the hospital and the nurses in the recovery room were great as well. The *only* issue I had was some mild constipation both times. Sorry if that is TMI. If I have to do it again, I will get some colace or miralax or something! to help deal with that b/c it sucks.

    Best of luck today!

  • I had a D/C under general last October and was extremely nervous! However, it was quick and not too much pain....actually, I felt better after the procedure then when I was miscarrying.  It's ok to be nervous, but you will be ok.  ((hugs))

  • I had to have 2 D&C's, one on 04/25 and another 04/28 due to a severe infection. Both times went really well. Hang in there. I think it's normal to be nervous!
