Pre-School and Daycare

Need some advice!

My 4 year old son (5 in Sept.) will not stop wetting his bed at night. Did you have this problem and how did you resolve it. DH is thinking to set his alarm at night for two different times to wake DS#1 up and make him go potty.

I've cut off drinking fluids at least an hour before bed.  I would say 5 nights out of the week he wakes up wet.  It's getting tiring washing his bedding every day.

TIA!

Re: Need some advice!

  • To limit DD's accidents we stop drinks 1 1/2 hours before bed and we take her to the bathroom right before we go to bed (about 3 hours after she has gone to bed). She's basically still asleep, and DH jsut takes her out of bed, whispers that it's time to go potty.  The lights are off (night light on) and we basically do everythign for her to keep her from totally waking up.

Don't forget it's not necessarily a mental thing for some kids, they may just not physically be able to do it yet.  Have you spoken to your Dr. about it?

Sounds to me that he is not ready to go all night - put him in a pull-up and let him be.  Night time training can take a long, long time for some kids.  Kids that are deep sleepers take a late longer to train and nothing that you do is going to change that.  Waking him up to pee and having to change sheets is only making all of you tired and not doing a thing to train him.  It can take kids years after being day trained to be able to go all night or to wake up enough when they have to go to actually be able to get out of bed and go.  You can't train night time - it is more of a physical or psychological thing and the things you did to work on daytime don't work at night,

Ditto. I've read that some kids need to be 5 years old, or in some cases older, before their bladders can physically go all night without an accident. I would just use a night time pull up for now.

  • We do have him in pullups at night.  I make him go potty before bed too.  I guess I'll just have to hold off 'til he gets a little older.  I'll talk to his dr. at his next well child appt.

    Thanks!

My ds will be 6 next Friday.  He still wets the bed at night and wears a goodnight every single night.

My dds will be 5 on the 24th.  They are the same way only once in a blue moon they wake up dry.

I have asked their pedi and every time have been told to wait until 8 to be worried about it.

Ugh...Im so over the costs of these darn things.  SO much more $$ than diapers.
