NE1 not have cable TV?

DH and I are considering cancelling our service to save some additional $$.  Can you assure me that life will continue on OK??  Seriously, this is really stressing me out and I don't really watch much, but I can't remember life without cable.

Hold me and tell me its a good thing.

Re: NE1 not have cable TV?

  • We went without it for about 6 months. I would be fine without it as well would the kids. My husband is the problem. He is a tv junkie! Life is fine without it. I find I go outside more and do more with the kids when the tv isn't on. There's always movies and movie rentals.

If you find you don't like not having tv, just sign back up for it. Good luck!

  • When we moved to our new home, we did not set up cable right away. However, we have been in the new home since Sept 2010 and still dont have it.  So far it is okay. We bought an antenna to get ABC, CBS and CW, but cannot seem to get NBC.  In the beginning it was hard but now i know no different.

  • Yes and no.  We have a cable service so that we can have decent reception without messing with antennas.  But we are on a plan that is essentially the free, over-air channels. (Like ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) But none of the typical cable channels like CNN, Fox News, Lifetime, Discovery, etc.  It's fine for us.  We each have shows we like on the major networks.  And the kids watch PBS.

That's us, too.  We netflix shows from HBO, etc.   I would like better TV but I'd rather use that money to have lunch out once a week or whatever.

  • We don't have it. We just watch a nexflix or something from our movie collection if needed. But honestly, we almost never watch tv. Our tv does get three local channels over the air, which we watched last week when the bad storms came through.

  • I could live with just our Roku and netflix subscription.  Unfortunately, I am married to the cable man.

Is this service through your regular cable provider - like Comcast?

  • I wish we didn't have it, but DH would just die without it.

We have gone without cable TV since 2003 with the exception of one year (mid 2005-mid 2006).  We have just had the antenna and are content, we don't want to spend the extra money on something we just don't use much.

  • We haven't had cable since we moved to MN because we are paying a mortgage on our house in AZ and rent on our apartment here plus various other bills that we can't get rid of right now.

I absolutely without a doubt do not miss it one bit :)

ETA: oops, I fixed it but I said 'have' instead of 'haven't'.

  • We've never had at this house cable and don't have any free reception because we live in a canyon. I can't say I miss it AT ALL. Most shows that I want to watch I can stream from my computer (WIFI and a laptop or Wii is all you need). They play them the next day on-line. Same goes for movies. The only thing that I kinda miss is the news/weather report. However, I get this on-line too, but don't bother to stream the news videos, which is what I miss. More good stuff; I don't get overloaded on news items like the royal wedding of Michael Jackson's death, it is real easy to control anything the kids see and we spend way more time together outside or as a family than we would sitting in front of a TV. Here is your hug. It is a good thing.

Yes.  Basic/Standard and it's $15/month.  I have cable modem, too.

  • I'd be fine. Ethan would die without ESPN and fox sports. I think DH would die, too.

    I agree with this 100%.

  • We have super-duper basic.  We still need the cable for high speed internet (DH's job. . . they pay for it), but we are cheap, so we went with the most basic cable package.  We get the networks, Discovery, a couple Spanish channels, TBS. . . not much more.
