VBAC

What questions should I ask about VBAC with my new OB?

I am switching OBs (not related to VBAC) but would like to discuss VBAC with the new OB and am not really sure what to ask, what I need to know, etc.   We had not planned to get pg until later this year but it just sort of happened that way.....and I haven't even begun to do my homework or anything.

Some background:  I was induced at 39 weeks, 3 days due to high BP.  After Cervadil and 2 bags of pitocin I was barely dilated but had been having contractions for 24 hours.  My water broke, contractions became more intense but then DD went into distress and we had to do an c/s.  She had flipped to transverse and had the cord wrapped around her neck.   I had already gotten an epidural when they had to do the C/S so they had to give me additional drugs for the surgery and I was numb from the neck down....the whole experience was devastating....I was just trying to stay awake during the birth and afterwards couldn't even hold her b/c my arms were numb.

I didn't have a "birth plan" or anything like that...but it was the exact opposite of everything I had envisioned.  I think I am more scared for the delivery this time than I was with DD.

  • i would def. talk to your ob and find out what his/her concerns are are with the vbac and how long they are willing to let you labor for before they are wanting to do a c section. i know my ob said the risk of a rupture is like 1-5% so very low other then that you should be fine. how long has it been since your c section?
