Two Under 2

how did you transition your older child to a big kid bed?

My DD will be almost 22 months when DD2 is born.  I think she will be ready to go to a twin bed or at least I hope by the summer.  I was going to try her in the big girl bed starting at the beginning of August (DD2 is due at the end of September).  Any tips on how you transitioned...did you start with naps only or did you just do it cold turkey?  I am getting anxious.

  • Cold turkey when DS was 18 months...he was iffy the first night...but was fine and loved it after that! He acted like it was a crib and wouldn't get out until we got him...he was super easy with everything, though.

  • DS is 2.5 and still in a crib. They are 18 mo apart so I kept him contained as long as possible ;) He loves his crib, and I know if he was in a bed he would get out a lot, I know it for sure.

Every child is different, just make sure you are flexible, things change fast ;)

Same with us - DS is a little over 2.  He's still very content in his crib.  He was only 17 mo when DD was born - so we certainly couldn't put him a big boy bed yet.  If he was in a big bed now...he'd be out in a hot second...and in to EVERYTHING!

    Good Luck!
