With DS#1 I had the ring-sling (from sleepingbabyproductions) and an Ergo. I never got the handle of the sling, it never felt that the baby was comfortably and safely nestled inside (plus I ended up not liking one shoulder carry). He also didn't like the infant insert for the Ergo. Once he was older and I could use the Ergo without the insert we both liked it.
So this time around I'm looking for alternatives - something more secure than a sling (and with 2 shoulders) but less rigid than the Ergo. There are too many choices and too many reviews!!! (usually a good thing, right?
)
Moby seems to be by far the most popular choice, but what about others? What are the pros and cons of woven, stretchy or gauze wrap? Does anyone have a rebozo (is it easier than a wrap)? Is the pouch the same as a sling?
Re: Help on choosing a wrap/carrier
I'd suggest a long woven wrap. There is definitely a learning curve, but it's very versitile & comfortable. The Moby is nice, but it does have limitations, such as you can not safely do a back carry because it's a stretchy wrap & once your babe gets bigger (around 15 lbs is what I hear often, though it was sooner for me) it won't be as comfortable for you because it will sag & pull.
NCBelle has an awesome babywearing guide here. & if you have any questions or want recs on specific wraps that your considering there are a lot of experienced wrappers on this board & on the babywearer that can help!
ETA: If you do chose a woven, there are tons of youtube videos that can help you learn!
SCB already linked you to my guide which gives a run down of the pros and cons.
It sounds like a mei tai might be a good fit for you though - two shoulder, not as structured as the ergo but doesn't require as much tying as a wrap.
And a rebozo is just a short wrap worn like a ring sling ;-)

Thanks ladies!
NCBelle - your guide is awesome!!! I've read through it yesterday and I think I'm leaning towards a woven wrap as opposed to a mei tai, the mei tai seems similar to Ergo not in terms of being structured, but in terms of being pretty high up (I'm not verbalizing it well, but what I mean is that for a newborn or even 2 month old it seems that his head would be almost inside the mei tai). I wish I could try both but I don't have any friends around who have either.
If I go with a woven wrap, should I try a lighter version like gauze since he is due the end of summer and we'll still probably have a couple of warm months ahead of us?
