Low Carb dieters! I have a Q!

The first time I did low carb I lost 20 pounds in one month. However, that was back in highschool.

Today I'm about to start my 4th week and am down about 12 pounds... but I don't see any changes so I KNOW it's just water weight. I'm going to stick with it but I just feel like I'm not doing as well as I did the first time.

I've read that alot of people have a harder time the 2nd go around... just wondering if there is anyone out there who has done low carb twice and was just as successful as the first time.

**Potential flamers--- I really don't care what your opinion is on Atkins... I'm just going to ignore your posts because I don't yearn to answer your stupid comments about how low carb is bad for you.**

  • thats the only way I can lose weight if I cut carbs out. so no flames here. but maybe you were much younger in high school? I dont know about you but things are alot harder for me now that I am in my 30's.

good luck and stcik with it.

  • I recently tried a low carb diet again (for the 3rd time) to jump start my weight loss after having a baby and I did not see the results I was hoping for.  I lost the most weight the 1st time I tried Atkins, but I think it is b/c I had more to lose and my eating habits were not as good as they are now.  This time I maybe lost 2-3 lbs over a 3 week period and I gave up!  I still try to limit carbs but I don't think I will do this diet again, it is just not for me.  But if you lost 12 lbs over 4 weeks and that is pretty darn good!

  • I can't speak for low carb, but in general, I think it is MUCH easier to lose weight when you're younger.  I have a harder time now (at 27) than I did even at 23.

Yepp my first time around I was a sophmore in highschool! It's pretty funny because I was only helping my dad and doing it with him... it didn't seem harmless and I ate tons of meat and veggies already so it's pretty easy for me!

This time around I'm 50 pounds heavier and 22 years old. You would think it would still be easy since I'm still pretty young but I think my body just WANTS to be fat!

Seriously, my body is plotting against me to be fat. lmao

  • Def harder the second time around and the 3rd and 4th etc.

    Sorry.

Stick with it! Begin to incorporate exercise and make sure you are hydrating appropriately!

  • yes you actually do lose the most and much faster/easier the first time. they have a name for it like "golden opportunity" or something like that, there used to be a website about it.  If you go onto the atkins forum and search you can prob find out the info there. You will lose it,it will just take longer :(

I disagree with the one golden shot theory.  I've done Aktins- 3 times before.  The first time was a huge success- I lost 15 pounds (I was 22).  I should say, I was never overweight just higher on my BMI then I wanted and realized that I ate alot of junk food and starchy foods.  The 2nd time I was @ 29 and I wanted to loose 10 pounds and I think I only lost 5- HOWEVER I found the second time I cheated more and I didn't follow induction to a T as I did the first time.  For example, I would eat strawberries & whip cream (totally fine during the 2nd phase not the first) or I would have the Atkins ice cream during induction.  Now I did it again just recently (age 32) after having 2 babies back to back and it was a success- I lost 12 pounds in 4 weeks which to me I think is awesome- I'm short and petitie and if I was counting calories it would take me months to do that!  I also followed induction to a T this time around.  So I think a lot of it is people tend to slack the more times they do it.  I do like Aktins- it definetly keeps me into eating healthier.  I also don't swear off breads, etc- just in the first 2 phases I do.  After that I add it back in but stay off the sweets expect for special occasions.
  • I think you just have to give it time.  12lbs in one month is actually really good especially if you are not exercising.  I lost 6 lbs in 6 weeks and I'm pretty happy with those results.  Just gotta keep with it!!
