I'm a minivan lover here! Just got my town & country and it makes life so much easier. Tons of room, power sliding doors, power liftgate and better mpg than most SUVs. I was driving a ford explorer, but there's no way two rear-facing seats were going to work (DH likes his seat way back). If you plan to ERF you will have a hard time with a sedan and many SUVs, but people do it. Some of the crossover SUVs might work better, like the traverse, enclave, murano or mazda ones. Good luck!
Just bit the bullet and bought a Honda Odyssey - I LOVE IT!!!! Never wanted to be a mini-van person, but OMG it's awesome. I got it used, because I wanted a lot of features (leather, dvd player, auto doors, etc.) and didn't want to pay $40k.
When I had one baby with #2 on the way, I bought a Honda Accord. Then, SURPRISE, pregnant with #3. I so wish I had just bought the Odyssey back then! Even with just two, the minivan is so much better. I couldn't even fit the BOB double-stroller in the trunk of my Accord....and that's a BIG trunk.

We have a Mazda5 and we love it. It's got all the features of a mini-van (sliding rear doors, 3 rows of seats, etc.) but it's not as big. Feels like I am still driving a car and the gas mileage is also pretty good.

Just putting it out there that you don't necessarily have to get a bigger car. I'm still driving my Nissan Sentra with 2u2, and my brother-in-law's Civic has more room in the backseat than my car does. The double stroller fits just fine in my trunk too.

We have a Tucson for our "family car" and an Elantra Touring as our "backup car", but with the way gas prices are going, the Elantra has become our "main car" these past few weeks and I gotta say, I really like it. Sure we will probably have to bite the bullet at some point when the kids are older and start doing sports and stuff, but for now, it's perfect to fit the 2 car seats (and yes, I realize we are just a *little* early in putting the car seat in for LO#2 - lol) and it still has quite a bit of trunk space
Re: Beginning to car shop...need recs.
