too old school? WDYT? Have any of you made one? Have any tips?
I have been put to the task to make one for a coworker on behalf of our office. I think if done right they are adorable. And I know that with the diapers in mine, I just finished using them all up about a month ago. So I am sure some of you dont like them and that's fine but, I am just looking for some helpful tips or maybe a PIP here or there?

Re: Diaper Cakes?
I think they can be cute. But, I was left with tons of diapers I couldn't use since Kate couldn't wear Pampers.
So, I guess my suggestion would be make a cute, but small one. I had a HUGE one at one of my showers (I'm talking over 150 diapers) and it was a PITA to store that many loose diapers - and then a bigger PITA when we couldn't use them.
Personally, I like them if they are done well. I'm like the diaper cake queen and make them for all of my friends. I PIPed the one I made for my sister-in-law. The key is not to roll the diapers, but to lay them on their sides. Can you tell from the pic how I did it? I think that looks better. I color coordinate everything. I also cut circles out of cardboard so each layer is stable.
I know I'm a freak. But I like to make these and they are always a hit.
ETA: I've seen some crappy ones. I think you you either do one really well or don't do one at all. Also, I usually put something cylindrical in the center of each layer as another stabilizer.

I don't think they're too old school. I didn't get one for my shower but I think they're fun!
There are a lot of diaper cake videos on YouTube.

I got one at one of my showers. It was seriously adorable - and it looked like a ton of work.
But I have to admit... I would have preferred a real cake.
Here is one that I made last year for a coworker of mine. I don't remember how many diapers I used, but it was a lot. I just googled diaper cake and went off of those instructions, but I would cut the number of diapers used in half. My coworker loved it though! The top tier is wash cloths. And to hold the tiers together I think there is body wash, shampoo, and a bottle in the middle.
My bf's bestfriends girfriend ( if you can follow that ) , that I have never met made me this. It was great and alot of fun to take apart afterwards!!
yeah I like cake too. the real kind. I am not throwing the shower though so thats not my job ha-ha. My SIL made mine and she said it was a PITA but I think I just want to see if I can do it.
I LOVE the way that looks! Mine was great but I was cussing and swearing cutting off all those rubberbands! I seperated them into size and put each size into a reusable grocery bag and put them in the closet until he grew into them.
If you dont mind sharing your secret, what is keeping them together? Just the outside ribbon?
My sis in law made this one for my shower:

YWIA.
Also, I need explanation for what you put on my FB last night. I was like
I tied a thin string around the layers. Then the ribbon covers the string. Easy peasy! It does help to have two sets of hands to hold the layers while you tie the string.
Let me know if you have any other questions! I seriously think I've done four of these.

I used this link to get mine started: https://www.plan-the-perfect-baby-shower.com/baby-sock-rose.html
I quickly realized that the whole green floral wire & tape business was just too much of a pain in the a$$ for me. So I kind of just winged it.. I just wrapped skewers with the green tape and stuck the sock flower on top and stuck the end of the skewer into one of those styrofoam floral cubes. I only did 5 pairs of sock, I then added greenery, silk flowers, butterflies, and "it's a girl" lollipops to fill in space. My best friends shower theme was pink & brown.. that's why there are brown "sock flowers" haha!! It really was easy once you get the hang of it!! Hope this pic helps a bit!!
MIL made this for me. I liked how she wrapped receiving blankets around the tiers.
