My niece is making her first communion next weekend. DH and I decided we were going to get her a few books as a gift. I already have "The Giving Tree" on my list. She is the niece who is going through a lot of issues because of her crazy mom as well as low self esteem. So I was hoping for something that expressed a theme of her being special and loved just the way she is. If it is religious in nature that would be a bonus, but not a must. Anyone have any must reads? TIA!
Re: children's book rec
I received this book for my First Communion. I think it's a great First Communion gift.
Amazon also suggests several Max Lucado books when I search for that one. Those might be worth looking into.

This book is definitely along the lines of what you are looking for. I love this book so much, I can't wait to read it to Jackson when he is older.

OMG....I'm tearing up just reading the descriptions of those 2 books. And then I read the description for this one. Water works! I think I'm going to get this one for my DCs. I'm definitely adding your 2 to my list.

I'm heading to Innervisions today and I think they have the book you mentioned. I will have to check it out. Thanks!

I LOVE Max Lucado. My mom introduced me to his books several years ago!
Hopefully you'll see this, since I'm kind of late. I also recommend Max Lucado books. They're great, and usually religious in nature.
One of my favorites is God Gave Us You. You'll have to look at it to see if it's appropriate since you're not her parent, but it's one of my favorites. One of my students showed it to me last year, and I have given it as a gift many times since then.
I think the book idea is a great one!
