I got a ProForm something or other at Sears for around $500 about 5 years ago. I loved it and that thing was a work horse. It had lots of bells & whistles (automatic programs, heart rate monitor, etc). I sold it last summer (moved to a smaller house) and it was still in great working condition.
Do you want a treadmill for running or walking? I am a runner and after doing tons of research ended up with the Sole F85. It has a 22 X 60 belt which was key for me, and its very smooth and quiet. Its a "gym quality" treadmill for much less. It doesn't have many bells and whistles, but its sturdy and fast.

It was about $2000.
