New parents/dads groups?

I almost never get to post on the nest board anymore and maybe posted here once, but...

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any organized groups or something for new parents and/or new dads? While we've lived here almost 3 years, we're still pretty isolated, and our CWs just don't click with us, being at different stages. DH especially is longing to connect with other newer dads in the area. His only hobby he joined a group for is full of men much older than him.

Anything I've searched for comes back for single dads support, and anything for a parents group just comes back for a SAHM group, which doesn't work for me since I'll be back at work in a couple weeks. Maybe I just don't know the right words to do a search with for my area...?

I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks

Re: New parents/dads groups?

  • Is he into sports?  Perhaps he could look into coaching a little league baseball or soccer team?  Or perhaps the YMCA?  Other coaches and dads will have older kids, but it's probable there would be some with additional younger babies too.

Or are you a member of a church or temple?  That can be a good way to meet other families too, if that's his cup of tea.

  • You might try looking on meetup or bigtent for groups.

We used to do BOTB GTGs fairly regularly, but they have slacked off lately.

What age bracket is your Dh looking for/in? My Dh actually started posting on another parenting message board. While it is mostly women as well, he did get to be friends with a Mom from Cypress. We're in Katy currently and have a 16 month old. Really, the only friends we have  are ones we met in Ds's Kindermusik class. What are your DH interests? That may help for us to know other places to point out for him. Or try putting LO in a class where you both go and participate.

Age bracket of probably 27-33-ish. We're 27 and 30. For some odd reason, he tends to click with men who could be his father, agewise. I guess he just hasn't come across the right one in his generation. He does like baseball, and is somewhat of a computer and sci-fi nerd.

I never heard of bigtent but will check that out. I'll also start looking for classes we can both take DS to, once he's a few months older. I could work on me being more social too, it'd probably help him.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Contact info@premierbabyplanning.com. I think Sheneq knows of some groups.

Our best friends actually started Kindermusik when their DS was 2 months old.  While he couldn't physically do things, he still enjoyed the movement and music and things going on around him. It was a great intro to an outside of the home environment, other people/kids and music. Also, the place DS took swim lessons starts at age 4 months. I saw you LO is not quite 2 months, but something to think about.
