I've heard you should drink caffeine so the baby is moving around in there, and I've heard NOT to drink caffeine because the baby could move around too much and never get a clear shot.
What did you do?

My girlfriend had a soda before her anatomy scan when she was pregnant with twins, and they were both so active they couldn't see anything! She jokes next time, no caffeine!!
I had a bit of caffeine and sugar before the NT scan and I won't be doing that again! It probably didn't help that I was anxious, also, but baby was doing full-on flips at first.
I drank nothing but water and my LO was moving around quite a bit. I wouldn't mess with my usual routine for it; I'd just have whatever you normally have (for me, that was water, a yogurt, and a banana).
I asked my doctor yesterday if I should do anything special to prepare for the anatomy scan. She said not to do anything unusual but to go in with a full bladder, just in case - I can always empty as needed.

Sorry, stupid question, but why does a full bladder matter?

It makes it easier to see baby on an abdominal u/s.

This! The full bladder pushes the uterus outward making it easier to find the baby with the wand. If you are pretty thin, it's not really necessary though. I didn't need a full bladder with my NT scan.
Some doctors will say orange juice, some will just say ice water. I normally have OJ for breakfast. My anatomy scan will be in the morning, so hopefully baby wont be too wiggly. They didn't tell me anything about a full bladder. I might end up calling and asking the place, just in case. I mean I will probably have to pee by the time I get there anyways, so it might not even be an issue haha.

I have my anatomy scan in about an hour, and I drank caffiene for lunch, mainly because I have a coke every day for lunch. At both of our last ultrasounds we couldn't get the baby to move enough, my NT scan took over an hour before they could get a good reading. So I'm hoping that a little shot of caffiene will get my lazy LO to behave like a regular baby.
I will update on how it went afterwards...hopefully there won't be so much movement we can't see anything.

I'm a larger gal and they had no issues seeing my LO on a completely empty bladder for my NT Scan. I was told that none of my u/s (and all will be external) will require a full bladder b/c they have a newer machine (guess that means better?).
OP- Check with your OB, just in case. There's no sense going in with a full bladder if they don't need you to have one.

My Dr's office gave me a whole sheet of instructions. My appointment is at 8am, it says I have to get up at 6am and empty my bladder, then at 6:30 drink 32oz of water! Then not to pee until after the scan, which is an hour long. I am going to wear a giant pad since I'm sure I will leak, haha.

Re: Drink caffeine before anatomy scan tomorrow?
I was told the same thing by a nurse at the OB's office. OJ is the way to go.
