A lil help if possible please...

Hi ladies,

Im writing bc I need some help...I am so confused.  Last week I had my second miscarriage in nine months.  I had asked for my dr to test my progesterone after i started spotting bc i was concerned with this aspect due to the fact i dont ovulate regularily and some research i did.   on tues my levels were 400 on thurs they were 1100 on sat they were 500 and my progesterone was 4.  He said this is very low however i was miscarrying. he then went on to say progesterone treatments don't work and that i should just keep trying and eventually the pregnancy will work.  I am SO confused.  I am only 26 and very healthy...what is going on?

  • I would try a new doctor.  I'm sorry you're going through this.  You could also start charting.  We had a lot of frustrations initially it took a couple doctors and losing four pregnancies to find a doctor who would listen to me.  Most doctors won't do anything until you've had three losses.

  • Are you seeing a regular ob right now?  If so, you might want to try a reproductive endocrinologist.  Although, you might have to pay oop if your insurance does not cover infertility.  REs tend to be ready to start testing sooner and if there is a problem it might save you some time.  Also, what I have learned here is that your overall health in all other areas doesn't really seem to matter much when it comes to the reproductive system.  Don't beat yourself up and think that it was something that you did by not being healthy enough.  I hope you find answers and get your new baby soon!

  • My OB says low progesterone does not cause a bad pregnancy but does indicate one. I did get progesterone supps with my third pregnancy which was successful but my OB gave it to me to help me feel better and told me so. My RE that I just started seeing has the same theory. My progesterone was on the low side last cycle and he says if I can boost O it will also help my progesterone. I know there are varying theories on this and it is very frustrating. Talk to your OB if you're worried or maybe get another opinion. I'm sorry you're going through all this.

I can't tell you waht's going on, though I'm very sorry for your losses.  I agree with PP, I'd seek a second opinion.  Preferably with an RE.  I've said a hundred times, and I'll say it a hundred more - a good RE is worth every nickel.  I waited too long to see an RE and wasted a ton of time and money with OB after OB.  Do yourself a favor and get to an RE straight away.  GL!
