Will you end up planning your own Mother's Day?

I have a feeling I will. DH keeps asking when it is, so I can tell it's on his radar as, "Oh, crap, I've got to do something for that."

I've been trying to figure out gifts for my mom & MIL and I suspect we will invite them over on Sunday, so essentially, I'm planning the day. I plan to get gift certificates for pedis for our moms, and plan to go with them, so there's my gift. lol

Not that I necessarily mind it. Better to get what you'd like out of the day. But it is kind of funny.

  • I just planned the dinner menu with MIL earlier today.

We won't be doing much other than church/dinner.  I don't expect much gift-wise, and since H works so much, I'll take care of gift buying.

I'd rather plan it than be waiting til someone makes any decisions that morning.

  • Somewhat, but we do the same thing every year. Saturday night we go out to dinner (no kids) with dh's family (his parents and all his siblings). Its a way for us to be together and have a nice dinner. Then Sunday we do brunch some place. We rotate - either my house or one of my siblings. But we seem to do more at my house cause my kids are young and its just easier. Dh usually cooks dinner at night or orders take out from my fav. restaurant.

  • If I want anything special I have to plan it. But I just want a quiet day at home so when the girls asked what I want I said I wanted to sleep in and have some homemade cards.

I buy the gifts for the grandmas and even go so far as to forward emails about the gift for me (he always renews the zoo membership for my gift).

  • I don't even get to see my kid because it is his dad's weekend, and due to some circumstances can't be switched.

: ( Bummer! I'm sorry. You guys should have an "observed" Mother's Day on another date!

    Honestly, I don't get much of a Mother's Day. :(

I will spend the day before getting my house ready for brunch for my mom and then dinner for my MIL.  So, I get to cook two meals and entertain all day when I really just want to have some quiet time with my own little family.  DH tries to make it a special day, but its just impossible.  We started last year celebrating my Mother's Day the following weekend.

  • I don't think we're going to do anything. DH has to work that day. Maybe I'll make a nice breakfast before he goes? Last year I got a nice present (waterproof camera), so I guess we'll let this year slide.

  • DH went all out this year.  We leave the day after for Vegas...just the two of us!!  He arranged everything.  Not sure what I will do for Father's day.....sure can't top that!

My DH is actually really good about this and this year - the day will even more of what I like.  We typically do a brunch at a restaurant with DH's whole family and since having the kids, I hate it as its not at all relaxing and I always feel so rushed in the morning.  This year, for some reason my MIL decided we are celebrating on May 15th.  I think it has to do with one of my SILs but whatever - I get more of a Mother's Day that I like.  DH will get the girls up, will make some special breakfast and keep them busy all morning so I can relax.  We will most likely still do lunch with my ILs but at our house so way more low key.  We always see my sister and her family for dinner and meet up late afternoon  and do the park or something outside if the weather is nice.  No clue what DH and the kids are getting me for a gift but I heard them whispering about it over the weekend and the girls keep talking about making me cards.

  • DH tried to plan something.. He wanted to go into boston/gardens/fanieul hall for the day.  It was sweet of him to suggest that, but I said I would rather sleep in, plant flowers, and then get my nails done - maybe go to the Outback for dinner... which is pretty much what happens every Sunday (sans me sleeping in), so not much planning for either of us really. I suppose spending a day in town would be fun for all of us, but until the yard is done, I don't feel like going out.
