3 carseats in a row?

Anyone have 3 carseats next to each other in the back of a car? What car and carseats do you have? We're thinking ahead to #3. Our main vehicle is a mini van, so that one isn't a problem, but DH drives a 2 door Honda civic. We alternate daycare dropoff and pickup, so I really want a second car that can transport all the kids for short trips. DH has a big lists of wants for his next vehicle, and hopefully we can find something that makes him happy and still works for the kids.

  • We drive a Honda Ridgeline.  It can accomidate 3 seats, using the Latch system.  Right now we have an Evenflo Triumph fwd facing a Graco Snug Ride rf and we tried putting our Eddie Bauer 3in1 in just for kicks and they all fit.  I have seen the same truck with 3 Sunshine Kids Radian65 installed rf and although it was tight it wasn't that bad.  Love the truck, fully loaded, nice to drive.  Doesn't even feel like a truck.  My fav feature besides navi is the built in locking trunk that sinks into the truck bed.  My double stroller fits in there!

  • i dont have 3 kids, but i've always heard that the Sunshine Radian seats are the best for putting 3 in a row in a standard car, without needing some huge thing.  i'm sure someone here can have better input about it.
  • I have a Prius, and 3 seats across the back (all rear facing). It's 52" from armrest to armrest, so it's pretty dang narrow back there.

The 6mo is in a Maxi Cosi Mico infant seat, the 2.5yo and 3.5yo alternate between the Radian XTSL and Combi Cocorro. The Radian compromises leg room in the front seat, but the Combi has really low limits. The plan is for when the baby outgrows her seat to put her RF in the Combi, and to get another Radian for FF. In theory, by the time that happens one of the older kids will be ready to FF but they're both really small so I don't know....

The Combi is the narrowest convertible, followed by the Radian. The Radian is useful for MUCH longer though so I would recommend that one over the Combi unless you'll be passing it down from kid to kid like I am.

ETA: from L to R- 6mo, 3.5, 2.5. The one in the middle is mine, the other two I nanny.

This does not work in all cars.  No way to do it in my small volvo wagon period.  You can look at the dimensions of the V50 and see how wide it is, but it doesn't work, no way no, no how, not with sunshines or any other seat I could find.  You can fit 2 sunshines and a backless booster in my DH's 2010 RDX, but it ain't easy.  I have also gotten a backed booster, a sunshine kids, and an graco larger infant seat (the 30+ weight one) in a Saab 95.  I would not go on what the car salesmen tell you.  You really have to try the seats before you buy.  DH's car actually says in the manual that you cannot put 3 car seats in it, but the dealer told DH he could.  The MDX, you can.

  • Sorry it's not clicky, but here's a huge list of successful 3 across installs in all different types of cars with different seats. Lots of pics too. It's definitely possible!
