Sorry---no typo--it really is "Xjavier"
They just liked it that way!

Im assuming this is pronounced Skyler? There's a kid in my school with name too... when I met him (yes, him!) I immediately felt bad for him becuase it was clear that no one could pronounce it properly when reading it. *sigh*
As pp's said, this would totally mess up the pronunciation. People are misguided in their quest for a unique name. Its so easy to confuse "unique" with "weird".
Unfortunately, mom gave birth at age 14. NO JOKE. I was friends with this girl in Jr. High/High School.

Yes, pronounced Skyler. I believe Schuyler is the "traditional" spelling (for boys). I'll have to google that now...

This. Why is it that people feel the need to "cute up" girl names? I don't get it. I guess they don't they realize that their cute little girls will grow up one day and might need a more mature looking/sounding name.
Hoisting up my feminist conspiracy theorist flag here, but I really do think it's because society doesn't take women as seriously, so we are less likely to name our boys something insane because "Well, what if he's president one day?! That's not a presidential name!" while girls are more often seen as cute little girls (sometimes into adulthood).
Sorry if I'm due for my next cup of caffeine, but "I'm looking at you, too..." are you just referring to Ireland or to my LO's name?
Just curious.. that read funny to me but I admit my eyes glaze over at times. :P

It's a pet peeve to think of any baby/little one as "cute" forever. I realize my taste will differ from others, but we can all agree that "Bailey" (for example) is cute when held up next to a "Victoria" or "Alexander".

LOL, too funny (but sadly true!)
Just Ireland! (Unless your LO's name is "China" or "Azerbaijan" or something like that, in which case the same complaint would apply ;-))
HA! It reminds me of a Chris Rock/Jon Stewart interview. Rock said, as a parent, his goal was to keep his son off the pipe and his daughter of the pole. Stewart asked what his daughter's name was and when Rock replied "Lola" Stewart said "You're off to a bad start."
HAHAHAHAA!! Nope, I'm good then
I get "Geneva" a lot for Genevieve so I thought that might have been the case.

Yep, Chris Rock has a whole bit in his standup about keeping his daughters off the pole

I am actually angry with the parents that named both their girls, "Destanee Starr" and "Heaven Leigh". It physically irks me!
First off, they give the first one a fvcked up name like Destiny but then spell it ridiculously and then, Heavenly?? Really? Come on!
Sydney Schuyler is a pretty name, and I'm not much for alliteration.
Hailey/Haley is cute, but there are SO MANY of them.
I actually had a student last year named Heaven Leigh (but hers was spelled Lee). Apparently this must be a popular name choice...how precious.
Xjavier reminds me of another student I have this year- Ja'Zavier. Ugh.
Noah and Caleb are okay, but again, there are SO MANY. And oddly enough, every Caleb I've ever taught has spelled it Kaleb, so the C looks weird to me now. *shrug*
I think there is something to this. It seems like often the same people whose girl name ideas are inanely cutesy are those whose boy names are pretentious surname-y first names. The boys get names that make them sound like lawyers while the girls get names that sound like child beauty pageant stars (ick). I really can't imagine the parents of a Rylee or Madisyn telling her that she is smart and she can be a Supreme Court justice someday.
In my circle:
Girls: Chloe, Kelsey, Gabrielle, Emmaline, Madeleine, Lillian, Olive, Catherine, Emma, Lucy, Adeline, Marisa, Amanda
Boys: Michael, Lucas, Julian, Lachlan, Jack, Camden, Orson, Finley, Oliver, Austin, Gordon
I'm going to start hanging out in your circle. Madeleine is DH's pick for our next if its a girl.
