They keep saying they like it even as a first name. One friend said it's in his top 5 favorites for first names, which is nice but the name is McConnell. It's my husband's grandparents' last name [he's very close with them plus it's a tradition on his side to name a child after his grandfather- I didn't want to use his first name like all of H's cousins so I chose their last name instead].
Is it just me or would McConnell be a really strange first name, especially if it wasn't a name in your family? I'm not a big fan of Mc names in general so maybe that's why I feel that way. I just think it's odd that I've heard the same thing from several people.
Weird or not?
Re: People keep commenting on Bay's middle name
Definitely weird as a first name IMO.
We have a few 'Macs' in our families also, I just don't prefer Mc names for first names. I guess I can see how it might work on some people, though, if you don't mind the Mick or Mac nicknames [I'm not a fan].
I personally would never consider any Mc name as a first name (for a boy or a girl), but I can see why people are saying they like it for a first name.
I think this name would appeal to anyone who likes Mc names, but wants one that works for a boy, and hasn't been completely taken over by girls. It's also reminiscent of Connor, which is super popular these days.
This is how I feel, I wish everyone else felt this way.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
Like a PP said, if you're into the McNames, I can see the appeal. It's definitely a boy's name. But I agree with you that it works better as a middle name.
Okay follow me here... you know those parents that have 3-4 children, all with crazy made-up K names? For instance, Khadyn, Kyler, Kynzlee, and Kaxton. Those are the same type of people who would have 3-4 children all with Mc names.
So for instance, if they had already had two daughters named MycKayluh and MacKynneigh, and they found out their LO#3 was going to be a boy, they would be looking for a masculine Mc name to use. IMO, McConnell would be exactly the type of name they would choose (but watch out for misspellings!)
It's fun to try to get inside the brain of someone who thinks differently than you do!
