Pre-School and Daycare

Not normally here, but looking for advice.....

My DD has never been much of a sleeper, ( shes 4 ) but the past year shes been going to bed at her bed time ( 9 ) and waking about 9-10 oclock. The past few weeks shes going to bed at her bedtime ( sometimes a little later depending on the days events) and waking early and earlier, 7 -8 o clock. A couple nights she was waking at 4 am, putting in a movie and watching it until she fell back asleep. I was just wondering if anyone else was going through this with there children, or if it could possibly be the changing of me being 6 mos pg.

  • Our son is almost 4 and he's been getting up a bit earlier than normal as well, but from what I understand, they are just needing less sleep.  I don't know if your lo still takes naps or not, ours does most of the time.  But I think at this age they only need about 11.5 hrs of sleep, including naps.  Some more, some less, just depending on the child, how active they are, etc.  My kids' bedtime is at 7 though so we are used to waking up at dawn, lol.

  • my daughter doesnt take naps, but is very tired and cranky all day because it seems shes not getting enough sleep. I just dont know how to get to sleep longer.
  • I'm sorry :(  I'd like to get mine to sleep later too  {{hugs}}
  • If she was sleeping 9-9/10 and now 9-7/8, the amount of sleep seems normal and age-appropriate to me, as kids need less sleep as they get older.

    I guess I don't really see how she's a bad sleeper, except for occasionally waking up and watching movies in the middle of the night, in which case I'd suggest taking the TV out of her room (but I don't agree with TVs in kids' rooms anyway).

    WOW! By the time she wakes up (10) eats breakfast and such, most of the morning is shot.  You must be having lunch around 1 or so and if she lays down for a nap than there goes her afternoon/early evening as well.  My suggestion(if you want it) is to make everything earlier, cause come Kindergarten she will have to wake by 7 to get ready and that means going to bed sooner.  IMO it just seems like she is sleeping a lot and not having alot of time to play, explore and spend time with you.

  • My 3yo goes to bed at 8-830 and wakes up at 7. On the weekends after a rough day she might sleep until 730. At school she takes a 45 min nap and nothing at home on the weekends with us. I would say she's sleeping fine. The getting up at 4 thing happens to all kids and heck even me!
  • It may be a function of the sun coming up earlier.

    We 100% black out their windows when summer gets here or they wake up a bit earlier every single day.

    Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
    Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
