I think they are only added automatically at target.

I don't really think it is necessary.  I would think most people would not need to be "reminded" that if you're registered at BRU, Target or the like that you would also be happy with a gift card to that place.

ETA: I don't think it's tacky unless you request X amount of card for Y dollar amount, but still it seems like something people can figure out on their own.

What about an online seller like amazon?  People would have to know what to search for if it wasn't on the registry.

Is there a way to add a gift card suggestion without putting a dollar amount?  If you can do that I can see how it would clear up confusion on site where people might not automatically think of doing a gift card.  If you have to add X amount of $25 or $50 gift cards I'd still skip it because that kind of walks the line of suggesting how much people should be spending on you, KWIM?

There is no way to add it as a suggestion.  Only as a dollar amount.  I am sure people who will be doing my amazon registry are probably savvy enough to figure it out.  Or, they live far away and would have to ship a gift anyway, so ordering/shipping directly off the registry wouldn't be odd for them.

I know H's family will just be sending us cash, so they won't be venturing to the site and getting confused.

I'll just skip it.  It isn't that big of a deal anyway.  We have the money to buy what we don't get, and I don't want people to think we are asking for money when it would really be just a convenience factor for them.

  • I think it is kind of tacky, kind of like when people set up a bank account for wedding gifts. Target does ask if you want them included or not.

Yes, they do ask you, but you have to read the fine print.  They "auto select" gift card suggestions for you.  I didn't keep it checked.

  • Very tacky.  It is essentially asking for money.  People don't need guidance for picking out a gift card.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I think it's okay...it's "normal" in my circle of family / friends.
  • When I started my registry at BRU the lady went ahead and added gift cards to it.  I'm not sure exactly how she added them.  I figure if people intend on getting gift cards they'll do just that.  They won't really need to be reminded or given the "ok".
