I really don't know-- but sometimes I see kids that look like they are pushing a weight limit or barely squeeze in a stroller anymore. When do most babies/kids stop using strollers?
it depends on the child and where you are. I can see DS still using a stroller at places with a lot of walking (amusement park, zoo) until 3 or 4. Right now we only use it at stroller strides and the zoo & amusement park. Other than that he walks.
Preston is 4.5 - if we were to go to Disneyland, then he would be in a stroller. We have gone to smaller amusement parks and zoo's and he has walked. I think he stopped using the stroller (most of the time) around 3.
Most strollers have a 40 or 50 lb weight limit. My 5.5 yo is about 42 lbs. However, my In Step Double Jogger has a 38" height limit. My 3 yo is 37".
I make Taylor who is 3 sit sometimes. Alex was done with it last summer, so at 4. It kills me to see someone pushing an umbrella stroller with a kid who is too big to be in there!! Last summer I took the wagon to the zoo in case they got tired. This year I think I am taking the single jogger to keep the others out of it.
ETA: I guess I used the Sit & STand last summer & the wagon the year before!
I will say that size-wise most kids outgrow regular sized strollers by about 3 years old, but there are plenty of kids who still need to be in a stroller on certain occasions until they are 4 or 5 years old, which is why you see kids that age squashed into strollers that are too small for them.
When my son was a little over 3 we upgraded to a sit-n-stand because he was way too big for the side by side Maclaren I had bought when DD was first born (DS was 2.5 at the time). Even though he mostly walks everywhere now, if we spend the entire day in a park, he gets really tired at the end and needs to sit. Also, he still runs off in malls and for my own sanity and his safety, I need him confined to a stroller.
Not sure what I am going to use for DD when she reaches that point. I would probably look silly pushing around a sit n stand that is empty in the front with just a kid in the back. i guess she will be one of those 4 and 5 year olds smooshed into an umbrella stroller...lol.
My DD didn't use a stroller after about age 2 *except* when taking the dogs on a walk. I wanted them to walk with a decent pace so she kept riding in the jogger for dog walks until DS was born (she was 4).
Now she is 5 and 40 lbs. She will have to ride occasionally while I teach my stroller fitness class because kids are required to ride and the few times that she won't be in school she'll just have to deal.
I'm "mean" about making kids walk, though. I want them to wear themselves out. We expect at least one mile of walking for each year of age. DD hiked 5 miles on tough, rocky terrain last summer when she was not quite 4.5.
