Cloth Diapering

Newbie with a used CD washing question, possible repelling?

I bought all my newborn CDs used and they all seem to be fine, but I also got some liners (BG and G diapers) in a used lot and when I put some water on them to see if they are repelling the water beads up.  The weird thing is it beads up on one side, but not the other, is that normal?  Is there one side that is supposed to go face up and the other that goes down?  On the BGs there are snaps so I know how those go, but on the G Diaper liners there aren't any snaps, but the material is different on each side (one side has a tag sewn in if that matters).

So if the water is beading up then I should strip with blue dawn, right?  It's not a lot of liners about 12 total, so what size load should I do?  We have a top loader with small, med, large and super load settings.

Thanks in advance :-).

  • At this point I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just putting some water on them isn't going to do anything. You really have to try them out on a kid. You could try using warm water coming from a stream and then applying pressure (like what would happen if the diaper were on a baby). If you can't get the diaper to absorb then you've got some repelling.

If you do have to strip you can just use a squirt of dawn in the washer with everything on hot water super load size. If you're stripping anyway I'd go ahead and do everything - not just the inserts. Then rinse until all the suds are gone.

  • Thanks!  I didn't put any pressure on them so that is probably why they didn't absorb.  They came from the same lot as some of our diapers and they seemed to absorb water fine so I was puzzled as to why these would be repelling and the diapers weren't.  I will just wait and see what happens when we use them.
