Oh, what a comment!

So, yesterday I was at my SIL's Jack and Jill shower. Other than DH's parents, I haven't seen any of the IL's since xmas. So, his aunt and uncle (siblings, not married) show up. DH'a aunt says hello and offers her congratulations about the pregnancy. Then DH's uncle says hi and says to me "Well you're looking fat these days." When I jokingly thank him for his "kind" comment, he tells me to ask my FIL, that FIL knows what he was talking about. So when the comment is repeated, FIL has no idea what his BIL is talking about and seems kind of annoyed that he's kind of being blamed for or even associated with the comment.

All I could do was laugh it off! I work in special ed and see kids with all kinds of disabilities, and I'm pretty sure DH's uncle has undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome. He can't read social cues and often makes inappropriate comments in an attempt at humor. He really is good hearted, but luckily I don't see him very often, as I can only take him in very small doses! I guess of all these crazy comments will hopefully help prepare me for the ones I'll get once the twins are born, as I am becoming a master at laughing off the ridiculous.

TTC for 3 years. Finally successful after 5 IUIs and 2 cycles of IVF. Our amazing twins were born 5 weeks early on 8/16/11. Found out April 2012 that our di/di twins are ID.

Re: Oh, what a comment!

  • Oh my!  Men don't get offended by fat comments as much as women so I don't think they think before opening their mouths.  I had a family member make a joke about my butt getting fat.  News flash...it was fat before I got pregnant.

  • Oh how I can so relate to you!!! My DH family s the worst!! My FIL is the worst.... In an attempt to be funny every time he sees me he says " how's fatso doing." really MIL and SIL constantly ask how much weight I've gained and make comments about not being able to wait to see me so they can see how big I am. I had to go to DH grandmas funeral on Saturday and got an entire 8 hr days worth of this comments, or " just wait...... It's gonna get so much worse" or " you are going to get soooo huge" really??? Needless to say it was a long day! Luckily they all live an hour away so I'm hoping I can make it through the rest of this pregnancy w/ out seeing any if them. Is that awful or what??
