Cloth Diapering

Pre folds

I know a lot of people on this board use pre folds so I was wondering what type you use.  I have been cloth diapering for the past month and am primarily using the flip system but I don't like how the little piece of fabric in the front and back where the inserts slips into feels damp.  I actually love the econobums covers with the flip inserts but I did get some of the pre folds with the econobum package.  I haven't used them yet because I have washed them 3 times and they still seem pretty stiff.  Do they soften after a few more washes?  Are they going to be bulkier than the flip inserts?

Re: Pre folds

  • Prefolds definitely soften up after a few washes. I have some GMDs and some BabyKicks hemp prefolds. I have wool covers and Thirsties covers - all of which I like.
  • I use Econobum and Osocozy and love them both. They absolutely soften up after a few uses. I've also never had any leak issues with my Econobums but DD isn't a very heavy wetter either.

  • We use mostly Indian Cotton PFs from Cottonbabies.com, and also got two Econobum PFs with the covers we ordered from the same site. The Econobums always seem a little stiff to me since they're thicker. Our regular prefolds are kind of crunchy most of the time because we usually line dry, but they get nice & soft in the dryer.
