How many newborn pieces of clothing would I need (on average) to have prepared. I know this depends on the baby, but what was your case? I was kind of thinking to go directly to 0-3 months size (except for one newborn set), and have my son be "over comfortable" for the first two weeks, but now that I am lurking around I think that might not be a good idea? Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Second and + time moms, please advice
I recently had this conversation with my friends.. and it really depends on your baby! My DD was out of the NB stuff almost immediately.. within a few wks she was 10 lbs.. and others said that their baby was in it for longer...
Just keep the tags on things so you can exchange them... but I think 0-3 is a safe bet..will definitely last longer.. but if you're having a summer baby.. just get alot of ONESIES.... I had a gazillion cute outfits for newborn.. but I was stuck inside in winter and (plus you may want to limit visitors at first)... nobody ever got to see them.. although I did take pictures.
My DD wore NB clothing for probably 3-4 months; sized 0-3 was way too big. She was 6 lbs 1 oz when she was born so was small.
I think my daughter was in NB for about 10 minutes!!!! She was 10 pounds at birth, and just went straight into 0-3.....which were slightly big, but they worked...
Tons of Onsies......I got those sleepers that don't have legs...just the long gowns...when they are super little, they just draw up their little legs, and those worked well.
Agree with this, footless onesies and gowns . I also bought two piece outfits which were a real pain. I wont bother this time.
One of our Australian brands - Pumpkin Patch have a onesie pajama that converts to a gown as well. I bought a few of these and they were great! Check out Pumpkin Patch online
