It's on the more expensive side, but certainly not ridiculous. I don't usually spend that much, but then, I'm not picky about prints.
How many diapers you can make will depend on a lot of factors, including the size of the diaper, what pattern you use, how many layers you use, etc. But a decent rule of thumb is that you can get around 6 diaper cuts from a yard of 60" fabric.
I mostly buy fabric locally from Joann's. I love shopping their remnants bin... you only need about 20" of fabric for a diaper, so you can find great stuff in the remnants bin for cheap. I really prefer to be able to see/touch/feel my fabric before buying, so I do prefer to shop locally. But online, I've purchased from www.naturesfabrics.com and www.fabric.com before and have been happy with both.

Thanks! I local places to by fabric (Walmart and a private store) don't have a ton of stuff and our private store is VERY expensive for what it does have. Good to know that you can get approx. 6 diaper cuts from a yard... that's more than I thought! I'm going to practice with my jersey crib sheets first and maybe I'll buy a cute knit frabic later......
That's what I always do... try a couple with the cheap stuff (preferably REALLY cheap, as in fabric that I already have around the house), and then break into the expensive stuff once I have my technique down! Fitteds are so fun because there are SO many cheap and easy-to-find materials that you can use. If you run out of sheets to cut up, you can use old 100% cotton t-shirts for jersey material, too
